Utility Worker at MedStar Health.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Washes dishes by hand or places them in a dishwashing machine. May wash pots.
  • Washes work tables, walls, refrigerators and meat blocks.
  • Sweeps, mops, cleans and vacuums floors.
  • Removes trash and garbage to designated areas.
  • Transfers supplies and equipment within and between storage and work areas such as pantry and dishroom.
  • Cleans equipment using specific chemicals to ensure sanitary standards.
  • Polishes silver.
  • Attends all allergy and food‑borne illness in‑service training.
  • Complies with all MedStar/Sodexo HACCP policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred or equivalent preferred.

Experience

  • Prior work experience not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Presents self in a highly professional manner to others and understands that honesty and ethics are essential.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate with co‑workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with all co‑workers, vendor representatives, supervisors, managers, customers and client representatives.
  • Ability to provide clear directions and respond to co‑workers.

This position has a hiring range of USD 18.00 - 29.74 /hr.
