Divcon Controls
Headquartered in Dallas, Texas,
Divcon
delivers fully integrated automation solutions nationwide that optimize performance, energy efficiency, and reliability across HVAC, lighting, power monitoring, and mission‑critical systems. Leveraging advanced technologies - including Allen‑Bradley PLCs, Ignition SCADA, and Delta DDC systems - we combine deep technical expertise with field‑tested execution to deliver precise, scalable, and high‑performance solutions.
About the role As a
Senior Design Engineer , you will lead the design, documentation, and implementation of complex building automation and control systems for commercial, industrial, and mission‑critical facilities. You’ll serve as both a technical authority and mentor, ensuring that Divcon’s automation solutions are designed with precision, scalability, and performance in mind. This role bridges electrical design, control logic development, and project leadership — ensuring every system meets customer expectations, industry standards, and energy efficiency goals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the technical design of HVAC and building automation control systems, including control schematics, riser/network diagrams, panel layouts, and point‑to‑point wiring details.
Translate mechanical/electrical plans and specifications into full automation control designs, ensuring seamless integration with mechanical sequences of operation (SOO).
Develop and review control submittals, bill of materials (BOMs), and control device specifications for procurement and fabrication.
Apply and enforce NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE, and UL standards in all designs.
Conduct QA/QC reviews of control drawings, submittals, and as‑builts to ensure quality and compliance.
Support commissioning and startup by collaborating with software and installation teams, troubleshooting control and network issues as needed.
Develop sequence of operations documentation, logic diagrams, and control narratives for advanced mechanical systems.
Engineer system architectures involving BACnet, Modbus, and IP‑based networks, integrating HVAC, lighting, and metering systems.
Design custom control panels and assist in panel shop build verification or FAT/SAT testing.
Evaluate and implement new control hardware, sensors, and energy optimization strategies to enhance performance.
Work with IT and software teams to support cybersecurity, connectivity, and system resiliency in networked BAS deployments.
Provide technical mentorship to junior and intermediate designers, supporting their growth in BAS, electrical design, and documentation standards.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with mechanical, software, and commissioning teams to resolve design challenges and maintain project schedules.
Contribute to internal standards development, drafting best practices for submittal templates, CAD standards, and design workflows.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of progressive experience in building automation, MEP design, or industrial controls.
Demonstrated ability to produce and review AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical drawings and submittal packages.
Hands‑on experience with control systems communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, etc.).
Familiarity with DDC system architecture, field controllers, and point mapping for HVAC systems.
Strong understanding of sequence of operations, mechanical integration, and power distribution basics.
Knowledge of applicable codes and standards: NEC, NFPA, UL 508A, ASHRAE 135, and local energy codes.
Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred
Experience with
PLC/HMI programming or troubleshooting
(Allen‑Bradley, Schneider, Siemens, etc.).
Field or commissioning exposure — FAT/SAT testing, control panel fabrication, or on‑site startup.
Prior leadership of small design teams or project‑level ownership of BAS packages.
Proficiency in
ETAP, SKM, or similar
tools for electrical analysis.
P.E. or E.I.T. license preferred but not required.
