Position Overview
AvaMed Inc is a healthcare staffing agency that staffs all California State Correctional Facilities/CDCR. We urgently need a licensed Phlebotomist for a full-time assignment at the San Luis Obispo correctional facility. Provider must be licensed.
Position Details: Phlebotomist – Full-Time – Location: San Luis Obispo, CA – Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm – Rate: $18.50/hr – Weekly Pay
Responsibilities
Perform venipuncture and finger sticks using standard equipment, including vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, blood culture, syringes and butterfly needles.
Communicate the procedure to patient/youth.
Collect and distribute specimens for laboratory testing per requirements.
Centrifuge, label and store blood samples for analysis by CCHCS clinical laboratory staff and/or external laboratory service providers.
Maintain inventory of supplies, stock supplies and hand trays.
Follow institution written standard procedures or follow standard phlebotomy practices for positive patient/youth identification.
Assist nurses, medical providers, and laboratory personnel in obtaining blood from “hard to draw patients” and maintain appropriate records of specimens drawn.
Obtain blood specimens from patient/youth under a variety of conditions.
Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Process non-blood clinical specimens accordingly for testing or send outs.
Perform test order recording into electronic system per procedure.
Handle and properly label bio hazardous specimens.
Maintain a clean, neat and safe work environment.
Work under stress, critical, unusual or dangerous situations where speed and attention to detail are important.
Qualifications
Licensed Phlebotomist. Knowledge of pre-analytical testing phase, medical terminology, patient privacy, proper venipuncture techniques, correct color-coded tubes, proper processing of blood samples, safe handling of blood and blood products, transmission of infection and methods for prevention, and major constituents of whole blood, serum, and plasma.
