Chief Purpose Of Position To provide medical and/or surgical care and treatment to patients with chronic pain as designated by the Anesthesiology Department Chairman and Medical Director/Program director for Chronic Pain. Provides diagnostic, therapeutic and/or preventive healthcare service including histories and physicals; ordering and interpreting tests; making preliminary diagnoses; treating injuries/illnesses; assisting surgical procedures; counseling patients; and prescribing medication. Performs invasive procedures defined by the Virginia Board of Medicine and designated by Medical Director/Program Director for Chronic Pain. Works collaboratively with the medical team to deliver organized, timely, cost effective and quality patient care. May supervise support staff and trainees, including medical students, residents, and pain fellows. The Chronic Pain Physician will provide patient care under defined departmental and state approved scope of practice.
Qualifications
Current VA license as a Physician by the Virginia Board of Medicine
Current/Active DEA license
Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications
MD degree
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications where needed
Credentialing in accordance with medical staff by-laws for specific job title
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
Board Certification in Pain Management
Three (3) years of previous clinical pain management experience
Addiction/Substance Abuse clinical experience
