The Staff Physician provides comprehensive, patient-centered Family Medicine care within a busy Federally Qualified Health Center. This role delivers full-spectrum primary care services across the lifespan including assessment, diagnosis, management of acute and chronic conditions, preventive care, and routine health maintenance. The Physician works collaboratively with advanced practice providers, nursing staff, behavioral health, and care coordination teams to ensure high-quality, culturally responsive care for a diverse patient population with multiple co-morbidities. While not a leadership position, the Physician may supervise or precept students, residents, or new providers in accordance with organizational guidelines. This role upholds all regulatory, quality, and performance expectations associated with FQHC practice.
Clinical Care
Provides comprehensive Family Medicine services, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic health conditions across pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
Conducts detailed patient histories, performs complete physical examinations, and documents findings accurately in the EHR.
Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests such as laboratory studies, radiologic imaging, and electrocardiograms.
Develops and implements individualized treatment plans, prescribes medications consistent with state scope of practice, and ensures continuity of care through follow-up and ongoing management.
Performs routine and urgent care procedures including immunizations, injections, basic wound care, suturing, splinting, and infection management.
Provides preventive and wellness care, including screenings, annual physicals, immunization counseling, chronic disease education, and risk-reduction guidance.
Recognizes behavioral health needs and arranges appropriate referrals or interventions in collaboration with the behavioral health team.
Provides emergency stabilization and medical intervention when clinically appropriate.
Participates in the planning and development of Family Medicine services and evidence-based protocols within the scope of the department.
Works collaboratively with NPs, PAs, RNs, MAs, social workers, behavioral health, care managers, and specialty partners to ensure integrated care.
Supports the referral process and provides follow-up for patients requiring specialty evaluation or diagnostic services.
Participates in interdisciplinary care planning meetings, performance reviews, and standards-based patient care discussions.
Completes and participates in chart review processes to ensure quality and compliance.
Education, Supervision, and Precepting (Non-Leadership) Provides clinical supervision to medical students, residents, or new providers as assigned.
Offers mentorship and guidance to help emerging clinicians develop clinical reasoning, patient care skills, and professionalism.
Facilitates clinical teaching, case discussions, or workshops when appropriate.
Evaluates performance of trainees or new providers, documents feedback, and ensures safe, high-quality patient care during supervised activities.
Collaborates with academic institutions and internal teams to maintain structured learning experiences.
Professional Expectations
Practices independently using sound clinical judgment and participates in on-call rotations during evenings and weekends as assigned.
Reviews Morris Heights Health Center email daily to remain current with communication and clinical updates.
Attends required meetings, trainings, and clinical case reviews.
Maintains punctuality and arrives prepared for all assigned clinical sessions.
Ensures compliance with organizational policies, HRSA standards, PCMH requirements, and state/federal regulations.
Participates in quality improvement projects, performance measurement, and clinical transformation initiatives.
Education & Training
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
Completion of an accredited residency in Family Medicine (required).
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine; Board Certification required within the organization’s timeframe.
Active, unrestricted New York State medical license.
Current DEA registration and New York State BNE registration.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS); ACLS or PALS may be required based on patient population.

Experience
One to three years of clinical experience in a Family Medicine, ambulatory, or community health setting preferred; new graduates will be considered.
Experience caring for pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations in a primary care environment.
Experience working with diverse, underserved, and medically complex communities strongly preferred.
Experience in an FQHC or public health setting highly desirable.
Proficiency in EHR systems required; familiarity with NextGen or Epic preferred.
Experience participating in quality improvement, population health initiatives, or value-based performance programs preferred.
