Job Description
This is a Full Time, salaried position at 40 hours per week located at the Cancer Center in Warrenville.
The Medical Dosimetrist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities
Develop computer‑generated treatment plans to deliver radiation to a defined tumor volume as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
Coordinate with radiation oncologist, nursing, and therapists for treatment simulation.
Understand and mitigate imaging artifacts due to motion or prosthesis, as well as imaging parameters and image fusion for contouring in local software.
Possess a comprehensive understanding of anatomy for contouring normal structures in coordination with Radiation Oncologists.
Be an expert in site‑specific treatment planning and know every module of the software, dose calculation algorithms, and the interplay between treatment parameters and dose accuracy.
Calculate Monitor Units (MU) for photon and electron beams.
Communicate with the treatment team regarding treatment plan implementation, including patient setup, immobilization devices, bolus, compensators, wedges, and field arrangements.
Provide support to therapists for DRR, kV and portal images, and other imaging parameters.
Have a clear understanding of advanced treatment planning techniques including beam modulation (FIF, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, KBP (knowledge‑based planning), protons where applicable), as well as other treatment options as technology progresses.
Prepare treatment plan documentation and transfer treatment fields to the record and verify system.
Know how to make photon and electron blocks, bolus and treatment aids.
Accurately bill patient codes per planning/procedures.
Participate in Dosimetry Rounds/Chart Rounds and staff/department meetings as scheduled.
Communicate with outside institutions to bring in or export previous radiation dose files and perform dose summations and composite documentation for all patients with prior treatment.
Actively participate in the orientation and education of new students and staff members.
Assist in ensuring that all patients are treated safely and in a timely manner.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff throughout the department, promoting a positive work environment.
Maintain competencies and comply with continuing education requirements of credentialing agencies.
Qualifications Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree and successful completion of a JRCERT accredited Medical Dosimetry program of 12 months or more.
No professional experience required; new graduates of an accredited Medical Dosimetry program will be considered.
Eligible for certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board; will complete the MDCB Certification within the first 3 years of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
Three years’ experience in a clinical Radiation Oncology department.
Excellent computer skills, preferably including use of XiO, Raystation, Eclipse, Precision/Tomotherapy, Pinnacle, Monaco, GE Advantage Sim, RadCalc, Mosaiq, MIM, and/or Velocity.
Proficient in Microsoft Office/Adobe products.
Teaching skills a plus.
