Physician Assistant ED – Saint Anthony Hospital Essential Functions

Provides direct patient care, including ordering and evaluating diagnostic tests and managing procedures according to established clinical practice guidelines and in accordance with privileges granted by the Department of Emergency Services.

Identifies deviations from normal and consults, co‑manages and refers patients as appropriate according to established clinical practice guidelines and in accordance with privileges granted by the Department of Emergency Services.

Serves as a resource for staff nurses and physicians in the Emergency Department to facilitate coordination of care and movement of patients through the continuum (20%).

Provides individualized patient/family teaching, health counseling and health advocacy services to patients, their families and significant others.

Completes all required documentation in a timely manner.

Marginal Functions

Performs both essential and marginal job functions safely as identified by Saint Anthony Hospital and the respective department while adhering to hospital confidentiality norms and standards. Actively and consistently demonstrates the core values of the hospital in all interactions.

Assumes responsibility for knowledge and maintenance of established hospital and departmental objectives, policies, procedures, sanitation, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation; also assists in care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.

Participates in staff meetings and other in‑service meetings or committees as required.

Participates in research, statistics, continuing education and quality assurance activities.

Participates in instruction of medical students, advanced practice nursing students, nursing students and other adult learners as assigned.

Strong leadership skills.

Reporting Relationship Position reports to Chair, Emergency Medicine.
