The NP/PA will provide consultative medical support to orthopedic and other surgical patients throughout the hospital. Responsibilities include performing initial consultation on high‑risk post‑operative patients in the orthopedic and spine services, daily follow‑up, daily rounding, full assessment of medical conditions, reviewing medication accuracy, managing peri‑operative medical conditions, documentation, and coordinating discharge with case manager and attending physician.
Hospitalist NPs and PAs work closely with orthopedic/surgical teams and are supervised by a hospitalist physician. Communication with patients’ PCPs is required when medication changes occur and to arrange follow‑up. A thorough, detail‑oriented approach to patient care is essential.
Education, License, Certification Required
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program
Current licensure to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner
Minimum of 2 to 4 years of acute‑care inpatient experience, preferably in the management of complex medical patients
Current DEA license
Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification
Pay Range $64.19 – $87.29 per hour. Compensation may exceed the base rate based on seniority, experience, certifications, shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime, and other applicable factors.
Prerequisite: All staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
