Phlebotomist 1
Draws and collects blood samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. Performs all pre‑analytical functions. Relies on instructions and pre‑established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Develops a complete understanding of specimen collection and handling in order to preserve specimen validity and integrity. Works under close supervision and must have excellent customer service skills.
Compliance / Safety: ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn during sample collection and processing to maintain safe work habits and a safe environment for self, co‑workers, patients and visitors 100% of the time.
Confidentiality: communicate confidential information only in designated areas and share it on an as‑needed basis, evidenced by lack of complaints.
Productivity: specimens are received and accepted into the Lab Information System using proper patient identification at all times.
Operates laboratory centrifuge for specimen processing in accordance to specified guidelines at all times.
Performs clinical specimen and order processing functions within specified guidelines at all times.
Follows the aseptic collection of samples for blood culture with less than 3% contamination rate.
Maintains phlebotomy areas in a sanitary and adequately supplied condition at all times.
Ensures positive patient identification and specimen labeling with less than 2 incidents per year.
Utilizes all specimen collection devices and techniques properly, evidenced by less than 2 incidents per year.
Active participation in committees, department processes and special projects as assigned.
Completes other duties assigned.
High School diploma or equivalent

Phlebotomy, MLA , or MA certification or license obtained within three (3) months of employment; Certified Phlebotomist or obtain a La. Medical Laboratory Assistant license
Phlebotomist 2

Must have excellent customer service skills.
