To learn how to apply for a faculty or staff position, please review this .The primary responsibility of the Learning Specialist is to develop and administer a comprehensive learning program for underprepared student athletes as well as those with documented learning disabilities. The program will assess the needs of our student-athletes and provide a system of support of professionals, as well as mentors and tutors, who will assist our student-athletes in overcoming learning challenges and cultivating a lifelong learning strategy.* Meet with students with educational deficits in Olympic sports and football.

+ Develop individualized educational plans for these SA’s including mentoring and tutoring.

+ Implement educational plans for SA’s that focus on developing independent learners.

+ Coordinate plan and regularly communicate academic progress of assigned SAs.* Direct and assist students with disabilities and learning challenges.

+ Help coordinate services to proactively address the needs of students with accommodations and liaison with campus office of Disability Services.

- Identify students who should be tested for learning disabilities

- Help these students apply for accommodations through the Office of Disability Services

- Monitor academic progress of students with accommodations

- Meet with these students on a regular basis* Coordinate the Academic Services Tutoring Program.

+ Select, assign, train and supervise and monitor tutors

+ Meet consistently with tutors for supervision and training

+ Develop a video/power point training program which will address learning styles, time management, organizational skills, and other things which will assist SA’s to be successful academically

+ Evaluate tutors and program

+ Meet with advisors and SA’s in this program on a regular basis* Liaison with professors of any student with educational deficits.* Departmental duties include attend all staff meetings, participate in orientation programs, meet with student athletes during official and unofficial visits when needed, monitor study hall, and assist in completion of special projects (university, department, NCAA, etc.).* Other responsibilities as directed by the Assistant Athletic Director.Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; and two years of appropriate experience.The University of Miami is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Females/Minorities/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities are encouraged to apply.
