Position Overview Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E)
is seeking a
Instrumentation Technician C
to join our teams in
Seattle, WA . In this role you will work with blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, bulletins, National Bureau of Standards documents, manufacturer specifications, and oral and written instructions to install instrumentation—primarily strain gauges and thermocouples—on all models of Boeing aircraft (civilian, military, and space).
Position Responsibilities
Receive work assignments from team leader or supervisor and obtain necessary materials and equipment.
Obtain appropriate engineering drawings and test documents, if they are not included with the work assignment.
Fabricate wire or fiber optic bundles for connecting test and computer equipment or sensor equipment during data collection and storage.
Set up and perform qualification, bench, or automatic tests as required.
Install fiber optic strain gauges, thermocouples, accelerometers, and strain gauges by soldering, bonding, spot welding, or mechanical fastening.
Use a scissor lift or boom lift to access areas for instrumentation installation, both inside hangars and outside on airfields.
Modify test equipment to meet engineering configuration as required.
Select proper hand, power, and bench tools (e.g., screwdrivers, pliers, torque wrenches, crimpers, cable tools, band saw, drill press, sander).
Use shop tools and test equipment to complete work assignments.
Document tie-ins and maintain records such as work logs for areas/equipment.
Devise and/or build shop aids and workaround methods as necessary for testing or troubleshooting systems.
Handle and protect components and assemblies such as static‑sensitive equipment per shop procedures and drawing requirements.
Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (ketone, naphtha, alcohol, epoxy, acids) per Safety Data Sheets and PPE policies.
Pack electronic equipment for travel as required by drawings and Boeing specifications.
Check work after completion of each operation to ensure it meets drawing or instruction requirements.
Submit completed or reworked jobs for inspection as required.
Contact team leader/supervisor/engineer/planner when assistance is needed.
Maintain personal and tool certifications as required.
Comply with applicable tool control policies.
Effectively accomplish duties requiring precision measurement tools, test equipment, and interpretation of results.
Use knowledge of wiring, clamping, tying, and terminating wires and wire bundles per electrical codes.
Understand aircraft electrical and mechanical systems.
Apply advanced mathematics.
Interpret data from a coordinate system to identify multiple axis and dimensional references (3‑D).
Operate floor‑mounted hydraulic and mechanical equipment.
Operate PIT (Power Industrial Trucks) safely as required.
Operate various hand tools and hand‑held power tools safely.
Communicate information effectively.
Know basic electricity and electrical systems.
Operate various types of test equipment, perform testing, and interpret results.
Handle, use, and dispose of hazardous materials, chemicals, oils, coolants, and lubricants per regulations and Boeing procedures.
Travel up to 10% of the time, domestically or internationally.

Alkalis (acid neutralizers, strong detergents); liquid coatings (etching mask, lacquer, penetrant); acids (boric, muriatic, nitric, hydrochloric).
Environmental Conditions Continuous (6‑8 Hrs.)
Noise (constant or intermittent).

Nonionizing radiation; elevated platforms; extreme heat.
Occasional (1‑3 Hrs.)
Atmospheric conditions (fumes, noxious odors, dust); confined spaces; welding equipment.
Personal Protective Equipment Continuous (6‑8 Hrs.)
Face/eye protection (safety glasses, goggles); fall protection (safety belts, harnesses, lifelines); protective footwear (steel‑toed shoes, rubber boot).
Frequent (3‑6 Hrs.)
Protective headwear (welding helmets, hard hats); hand/arm protection (gloves, arm protectors); hearing protection (ear inserts, canal caps, earmuff).
Basic Qualifications
1+ year of experience reading and interpreting wire harness diagrams and installation schematics.
1+ year of experience in electrical (wire shop) fabrication and required processes.
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of strain gaging experience.
3+ years of experience in aircraft electrical systems.
Certification(s) in electrical (crimping, bond and ground), mechanical (fork lift, hand truck, pressure/vacuum), or safety (electrical, egress, explosives).
Shift & Travel This position is for 1st shift. Travel up to 10% of the time, domestically or internationally.
Union This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinists (IAM‑751) Collective Bargaining agreement.
