Job Description POSITION TITLE: Director of Facilities and Bond Construction

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Operation Service Center/1500 W. Old Highway 56, Olathe, KS 66061

STATUS: Classified - Exempt, Full Time

HOURS OF WORK: 8 hours per day, 5 days a week and 247 days in a year

SALARY: Negotiable

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for overseeing and managing all facilities district-wide and construction projects.

This position is part of the Operation Service Center and reports to Executive Director of Facilities and Operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Managing & Scheduling Bond Issue and Capital Outlay Projects.

Assist with developing design standards, project management standards, and overseeing in-house projects.

Overseeing construction management firms and contractors on district projects.

Planning and design of educational and office facilities.

Architect selection/predesign processes.

Construction management selection/processes.

Ensure delegated projects come in on time and within budget that meets the district’s needs.

Oversee the Manager of Facilities.

Conducts meetings to review projects and share information with the Operation Service Center team leaders.

Coordinates all work with the Director of Operations.

Prepares correspondence, reports, and completes administrative assignments on behalf of the Executive Director of Facilities and Operations as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree and 10 years combined minimum experience in architecture, engineering design, planning, project management and/or construction management.

Additional experience in an educational environment will be taken into consideration.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of building/life safety codes, ADA, building systems, and construction methods and materials.

Extensive experience overseeing projects from planning through construction.

Able to make decisions affecting prioritization of projects based on critical need, availability of funding, staff or resources, and windows of opportunity for construction.

Able to make management decisions to meet programming, budget, and schedule requirements.

Experience with Revit and CAD, project manual and specification development, contract review, and building science concepts.

Exhibit a high level of professionalism.

Scheduling and decision-making abilities

Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.

Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

High degree of motivation, responsibility, and confidentiality

Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing data.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment.

Highly collaborative and effective team player

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)

Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the performance of Light work. The position involves Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
