Senior Director/Director of Portfolio Management (USA)
Key Responsibilities
Ideate and select products to construct a funnel of candidates for development, each with a compelling and distinct Target Product Profile, subsequently driving progress through development, registration, and launch.
Continue to drive product enhancements and line-extensions beyond launch and plan effectively for replacement and withdrawal of commercial support at end of life.
Maintain comprehensive subject matter expertise for the portfolio through primary and secondary research, ad boards, market scanning, competitive intelligence, and customer input.
Own and drive Product Lifecycle Management Process through formal stage gates leading cross-functional teams.
Ensure stage-gate criteria are met at every stage, “Push” each function to deliver effectively and to budget at each stage from development, through launch, growth, maturity and recommend discontinuations as appropriate.
Develop and maintain a balanced strategic plan for the category (stage, dose-form, technology etc.), managing replacement of mature assets and growing category revenues over the long-term.
Challenge business development to provide assets that supplement the internally developed portfolio.
Develop external partnerships to access new technologies and otherwise enhance portfolio development.
Skills and Experience
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech company.
Bachelor’s Degree (essential) Masters (desirable).
Entrepreneurial mindset, cross-functional leadership, and ability to drive action through others.
Business acumen, familiarity with 505b2 pharmaceutical drug development, commercial processes, and product lifecycles.
Understanding of regulatory processes and IP evaluation.
Strong criteria-based decision-making and execution capabilities.
Product selection expertise, creation of TPPs and life-cycle management.
Curiosity/industry network, financial modelling, forecasting and P&L construction.
Ability to take a systematic approach, driving forward many projects simultaneously through stage-gate go/no-go decisions.
Critical Leadership Capabilities
Accountable for portfolio success with a strong drive for progress.
Sense of urgency and ability to instil that in others; leading, maintaining buy-in and alignment of multiple functions at every stage disciplined decision-making and a comfort in making trade-off decisions within limited resources.
Championing selected projects but also the ability to recommend termination of projects that may still be favoured by others.
Ability to “speak the language” of both developmental scientists and commercial leaders, connecting what is possible technically with what is viable in the market.
