Role
The BESS Sr. Field Service Engineer is an either HQ/Fremont, CA or remote, engineer who will report into EnerVenue’s growing field product support organization. This person will be experienced in working with DC electrical equipment installations and maintenance with both hands‑on work experience as well as having an engineering background. This position will help shape the organization and will refine our product deployment and field services teams and processes. He/she will be part of a larger operations team that will also develop standardized deployment and product maintenance processes, while supporting product engineering teams with new product deployments. The position will work closely with deployment project managers as well as product engineers. Key Responsibilities
Travel to new customer installation sites to support installation and start‑up of EnerVenue Energy Storage Systems (ESS). Diagnose and troubleshoot potential electrical and communications issues during commissioning, as appropriate. Provide training to customers and operators on the ESS system and function. Interface with customer site teams, contractors, construction and operations teams, inspectors, and customers and coordinate EnerVenue on‑site activity. Travel to existing customer sites to help identify, troubleshoot and repair electrical, communication, or auxiliary support system issues under warranty. Issue clear communication and reports on observed field conditions, repairs made and propose solutions if not immediately repairable. Own and resolve onsite issues that are beyond the capabilities of the local customer teams and/or EnerVenue remote troubleshooting. Help develop documentation defining procedures for customer installation and commissioning as well as providing constructive feedback for product implementation. Qualifications
Experience 8+ years of experience working on photovoltaic installations, specifically on DC electrical equipment. Preferred 5+ years’ experience working on installation of commercial or utility scale battery energy storage system. Management of 3rd Party service providers or subcontractors. Technical Knowledge Working knowledge of industrial or power facility construction, operation and maintenance (installation, commissioning, energization/shut‑down, performance testing, troubleshooting, etc.). Knowledge of BESS and auxiliary systems (fire detection, suppression, HVAC, etc.). Understanding of and ability to follow operating, switching, maintenance, safety and environmental procedures. Understanding local and national electrical codes. Ability to read and understand Electrical schematics and prints. Working knowledge of power equipment networking and communication protocols. Preferred ability to perform basic networking diagnostics and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, Modbus, etc.). Safety Familiarity with LOTO procedures of BESS, DC Photovoltaic systems or inverters, and energization/de‑energization procedures. Ability to understand, follow, and create Job Hazard Analyses. Knowledge in electrical safety and arc flash standards. Preferred NFPA 70E and OSHA 30 training. Ability to identify hazards and installation compliance issues. Analytical and Communication Clear verbal, written, and presentation skills, and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across all business levels and functions. Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills. Detail orientation with a strong quality mindset. Enjoy working in a team environment. Proven computer skills in a Windows environment (Microsoft Office Products). Self‑directed and accountable, able to think critically about processes and issues. Physical work Ability to use multi‑meter and diagnose basic, low‑voltage electrical issues. Ability to use mechanical tools for typical electrical connections, enclosures and battery cells. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Other 0-90% travel US and international. Able to regularly take assignments that require significant overnight travel, including weekends and holidays. Education
