Senior Director, Heart and Vascular Institute Procedural Areas
Mass General Brigham (MGB), a not‑for‑profit academic healthcare system established in 1994 by Brigham & Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), provides a full continuum of care, encompassing two academic medical centers (AMCs), community and specialty hospitals, a managed care organization, a network of employed and affiliated physicians, community health centers, home care, home hospital, a health insurance plan, and other health‑related entities. The MGB Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) is home to more than 2,500 clinicians and staff. The team provides care in more than 40 settings across the MGB enterprise and delivers more than 350 K ambulatory visits, 25 000 procedures, and 150 000 echocardiograms annually. The HVI team produces more than 1,000 research publications each year and has more than $180 M in annual research expenditures.
Role Summary The MGB HVI is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as a Senior Director for the cardiovascular procedural areas, overseeing all invasive and non‑invasive procedural sites. The Senior Director will deliver efficient, patient‑centered clinical operations and execute the MGB procedural services strategy, coordinating with hospital procedural leadership to align with hospital‑based structures and teams. Working closely with HVI physician and procedural nurse directors, the Senior Director will champion seamless access to HVI procedures across MGB procedural locations, maximize utilization of MGB procedural assets, develop aligned clinical and administrative protocols, support transfers between MGB institutions, and drive growth and improved access.
Leadership
In partnership with HVI leadership, determines goals and objectives for cardiovascular procedural areas.
Leads multidisciplinary groups preparing for the move into the MGH Ragon Building, providing operational oversight and participating as a critical leader in staffing, equipment, space needs, workflows, finances, and other interfaces.
Implements HVI strategic plans for growth such as operational efficiencies, bed planning, staffing, recruitment strategies, community presence, capital, and procedural room availability.
Works with Institute leadership and MGB Strategy to identify, evaluate, and recommend new business ventures, affiliations, and partnerships consistent with MGB and HVI strategic plans and growth objectives. Prepares necessary business plans and documentation.
Serves as a critical member and senior leader for the Heart and Vascular Institute administrative team(s). Establishes and maintains clear communication with Institute leaders and builds strong relationships with peers, clinical leadership from other divisions and hospitals. Cross‑covers as needed to support leadership in the Institute.
Works with hospital leadership to evaluate and monitor performance of the HVI procedural areas, supporting delivery of services and operational goals of cost containment, quality enhancement, culture of safety, and patient experience.
Develops leadership structure that maximizes clinical integration and coordination with procedural areas in the community.
Clinical Operations
In collaboration with HVI leadership, leads implementation of strategies for growth, improved access, elimination of case cancellations, bed placement, transfers, improved turnover, and integration of clinical services across MGB.
Partners with chiefs, ACMO, directors, and clinical operations leaders to oversee operations of clinical services provided in ambulatory, inpatient, ICU and procedural services across multiple campuses. Works to achieve system‑level clinical and quality goals.
Works with clinical and entity leadership to develop, implement and maintain adequate staffing to support growth and access for procedural areas.
Works with the Chief regarding research planning and growth in the context of advances in technology, science, and funding environment in collaboration with AMC leadership.
Essential Functions
Create and manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and take corrective action as needed.
Provide management, guidance, and support to administrative leaders (5‑8 FTEs) and mentor them to achieve operational goals.
Monitor and evaluate quality of work output; research and analyze data to identify areas of improvement.
Develop and implement strategies to improve performance of HVI procedural areas.
Achieve operational goals including volume, financial, people, quality and safety.
Develop and monitor policies and procedures to ensure efficient operations.
Create letters, presentations, announcements, and other communications.
Stay current regarding trends and developments in the healthcare field.
Act as a stand‑in for HVI Administrators in meetings and committees as needed.
Lead or participate in special projects or related tasks as requested or required.
Support development of HVI website material.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Comply with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in business administration, public health, public administration, or related field required.
5+ years administrative/management experience in an academic medical center required.
Supervisory experience required.
Outstanding organizational skills to manage competing responsibilities and priorities.
Ability to delegate, supervise, and plan for timely completion of objectives.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and high social facility for obtaining cooperation from a broad range of people.
Demonstrated ability to interact with all members of the organization in ways that enhance understanding, respect, cooperation, and problem solving.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies.
Excellent negotiation skills in complex internal and external situations.

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required.
Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or Public Health preferred.

Progressive leadership in a healthcare setting 8‑10+ years required and in an academic medical center 5‑7 years preferred.
