The Academic Director's Role
The Academic Director will provide academic oversight and strategic direction for the graduate Project Management and IT Management degree programs. The director will nurture a culture of innovation and collaboration that centers on the success of students and community partners. They will guide the programs' strategic positioning, guarantee market leadership, and continuously enhance impact by ensuring quality and relevance of the curriculum, monitoring outcomes, and seeking input from students, faculty, advisors, and other stakeholders. As the leader of a team of practitioner‑scholars, the director will engage with faculty and nurture close connections with industry leaders, leading Program Advisory Boards and engaging deeply with IT and project management professionals in the Charlotte region to advance program goals, enhance student success, and positively impact the community. The candidate will be ranked as a professor of the practice (non‑tenure track) and is expected to teach courses in at least one of the two programs they lead. Responsibilities
• Oversee academic programs, curricula, and faculty teams for Project Management and IT Management degrees. • Develop strategic direction and ensure market positioning and relevance. • Guide advisory boards, stakeholder engagement, and community outreach. • Maintain teaching excellence in graduate-level online courses. Qualifications
Earned master’s degree in a related field such as technology, computer science, business, management, or IT management, plus relevant professional certifications. Significant experience leading and managing high‑level IT and project management initiatives. Prior experience teaching graduate‑level online courses with demonstrated teaching effectiveness. Academic leadership or business managerial experience preferred. About the Programs
Project Management program
delivers a balance of the “art and science” of the discipline. Students gain leadership skills in communication and stakeholder engagement, alongside technical skills needed to master proven and emerging methodologies. The program enables students to pursue industry certifications such as PMP® and Scrum Master. IT Management program
equips working professionals with knowledge and skills to align IT strategies with business objectives, support digital transformation, and drive IT‑enabled innovation. It is a cross‑industry program for professionals seeking leadership roles. This joint role builds synergies between project management and IT strategy, preparing professionals to manage complex projects and align IT strategies with business objectives in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
