What You Will Do We are seeking an exceptional leader to direct the HPC Platforms Project Management Office within our High-Performance Computing Division. This strategic role reports directly to the HPC Division Leader while also serving as the ASC Platforms Program Manager under the ASC Program Director.
As the HPC Platforms Program Director, you will:
Lead the Platforms element of the Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) program, managing a sophisticated portfolio of HPC technology investments and high‑consequence platform procurements that are tailored to national security computational needs and represent capital investments of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Serve as a vital strategic resource for senior leadership throughout Los Alamos National Laboratory, providing expert guidance and technical vision that shapes and advances computing initiatives.
Establish and cultivate strategic partnerships with integrators and diverse technology producers to advance computing capabilities.
Collaborate with program managers, division leadership, federal stakeholders, and industry partners to guide technology development, planning, acquisition, and deployment of world‑class computing platforms at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Lead a specialized team through complex capital acquisitions via formal Department of Energy processes, including deployment, operation, and decommissioning of computing platforms.
Coordinate cross‑functional HPC project leaders spanning hardware, software, and facilities‑infrastructure initiatives related to high‑performance computing platforms.

Minimum Job Requirements
Leadership
Experience leading high‑visibility, multi‑disciplinary computing programs including implementing a strategic vision that engages employees, program, and project stakeholders.
Program Management
Significant experience managing technical programs, including project development, planning, negotiation, advocacy, resource allocation, execution, and customer interactions.
Project Experience
Strong experience developing, managing, and tracking project baselines to ensure completion on schedule and within budget. Demonstrated ability to identify variances to the project baseline and to develop and implement recovery plans.
Collaboration and Communication
Demonstrated ability to facilitate work across organizations and with different corporate partners to advance and integrate work in a multi‑program, multi‑organization environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical personnel, and experience developing and delivering briefings, presentations, and documents for internal and external stakeholders.
Technical Experience
Working knowledge of the needs for deployment and operation of leadership‑class computing platforms for national security applications.
Education / Experience
Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Clearance
Ability to obtain a "Q" clearance, typically requiring U.S. citizenship.
Desired Qualifications
Line Management Experience
Demonstrated experience leading and enabling direct reports in a technical setting.
DOE Experience
Demonstrated successful experience interacting/interfacing with the Department of Energy program offices, programmatic secretarial offices, NNSA sponsors, and the tri‑Lab ASC community.
HPC Vendor Experience
Working experience in industries supplying hardware and software for or integrating HPC computing platforms or infrastructure.
Contracting Experience
Experience in large formal acquisition projects and management of operations contracts with a diversity of vendors across industry.
Clearances
Active DOE Q clearance.
Education and Experience Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Clearance
Q clearance (position will be cleared to this level).
Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Eligibility requirements: at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances.
Work Location The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partial offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position Commitment Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. For those who have not served the time required, they may apply for Laboratory jobs only with written approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
