Sr. Commercial Underwriter and Product Manager
A well-established and growing insurance organization is seeking a
Sr. Commercial Underwriter and Product Manager
to lead strategy, development, and management of commercial insurance products and portfolios. This individual will combine deep underwriting expertise with strategic product management to drive innovation, market competitiveness, and profitable growth.
You will serve as a key liaison between actuarial, claims, sales, and marketing teams—playing a central role in shaping the company’s commercial lines portfolio and go-to-market strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the full product lifecycle for assigned commercial lines—from concept and market research to launch and performance optimization.
Define product vision and strategy, leveraging market insights and competitive analysis.
Translate product strategy into actionable business requirements and collaborate across teams to execute.
Build business cases and secure leadership alignment for new initiatives.
Evaluate, select, and price complex commercial risks within defined authority levels.
Manage a portfolio for profitability and sustainable growth, using analytics to identify and address trends or emerging risks.
Partner with actuarial and pricing teams to refine rate strategies and improve underwriting performance.
Mentor and support product and underwriting staff, fostering professional growth and high performance.
Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to develop positioning, messaging, and sales enablement tools.
Cultivate productive relationships with internal and external partners, including agents and reinsurers.
Market & Industry Awareness
Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes, industry trends, and competitive landscapes.
Ensure products and pricing strategies comply with applicable regulations.
Engage with agents and brokers to understand market needs and promote company capabilities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 8+ years in commercial lines underwriting and/or product management.
5-7 years of prior insurance leadership experience.
Professional designations such as CPCU strongly preferred.
Strong analytical and financial assessment skills, with proven strategic planning capabilities.
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation abilities.
Proficiency with underwriting and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau).
