The Opportunity This position works out of the Pleasanton, CA location in the Heart Failure business within Abbott Medical Devices. Abbott Medical Devices is a global leader in providing life‑changing technology for the management and treatment of people living with Heart Failure.
We have an exciting opportunity for a seasoned leader to join our Global Clinical and Regulatory Affairs team within the Heart Failure Division (HFD) as the Global Director of Clinical Insights Development. This opportunity will report into the Divisional Vice President and will be responsible for driving patient‑centric innovation using data and insights with the intention to simplify patient management, reduce HCP workload, improve overall patient experience across all HFD franchises, and generate supporting clinical evidence to drive scientific acceptance and regulatory approvals. The individual will build and develop a team of scientists with expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) who are curious and interested in making an impact in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of people with heart failure.
What You’ll Work On
Data Innovation Strategy:
Develop global innovation strategy and roadmap for HFD products based on data and insights.
Execution Roadmap:
Establish a roadmap for execution (including budget and resources) by working closely with internal stakeholders (R&D, Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Reimbursement) and external stakeholders (researchers, scientists, clinician key opinion leaders).
Evidence Generation:
Develop evidence generation and dissemination strategy to support global regulatory approval, scientific acceptance, and reimbursement specific to insights-driven innovation.
Team Leadership:
Build and lead a team of experts in clinical data analysis, data engineering, and data science. Guide the team in developing machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to understand heart failure disease progression.
Infrastructure Development:
Establish the necessary computational infrastructure to support advanced data science algorithms.
Data Governance:
Collaborate with IT and privacy to ensure compliance of projects with applicable statutes, regulations, and professional standards.
External Collaboration:
Partner with academic institutions, healthcare providers, and other external entities to access additional data sources and research opportunities.
Industry Influence:
Maintain an external reputation as a clinical insights expert by presenting at industry meetings, serving on panels, and authoring/reviewing articles for peer-reviewed publications.
Required Qualifications Masters, MBA, or PhD degree in medical or scientific field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. The preferred candidate at least has 12+ years of experience working directly with commercial teams, HCPs, and key opinion leaders in identifying workflow challenges, and implementing data/insights-driven solutions. Management experience with building data science teams and operating in a highly cross‑functional medical device environment desirable. Global experience preferred.
