AJ+ relies on a strong team of editors to create dynamic videos that push storytelling beyond creative limits. Editors are assigned to work across different teams and are expected to use a variety of skillsets in terms of editing style, aesthetic judgement and journalistic integrity. Deadlines vary from a few hours to a few weeks, and all editors are expected to be adaptable, enthusiastic team players. Video Editors are an integral part of the AJ+ team. We are looking for people who have excellent creative and communication skills, and with experience in short-form video. The ability to be a team player and have a positive attitude is a must.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with Producers to create dynamic short-form nonfiction videos in a timely manner
Responsible for post-production processes from editing line cuts to finishing videos, including color correction and audio sweetening
Keep up a positive and flexible attitude in a challenging and ever-changing media environment
Follow established workflows and guidelines in terms of template usage, media management and general organization and processes, etc. laid out by Head of Post Production and Creative Lead
Be aware issues of journalistic integrity, such as blurring faces when necessary and not confusing the viewer with misleading edit techniques
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Remain up to date on the latest developments and trends in the industry
Be reasonably up-to-date and aware of domestic and international current event
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in digital video production, film, mass communication, multimedia arts or other related field is preferred.
2+ years professional experience as a video editor required, preferably in a team-based office environment
SKILLS:
Excellent creative, communication and visual skills, with strong attention to detail
Significant experience in short-form video (3-15 minutes)
Fast, adaptable editing skills, primarily in Adobe Premiere. Familiarity with the entire Adobe Creative Suite is imperative
Excellent sense of pace and timing, with a flair for strong visuals and efficient storytelling
The ability to listen to others and to work well as part of a team
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
The ability to identify issues and review related information to develop and evaluate options and solutions.
A familiarity of general systems, practices, and standards within a wider news/media environment
