Project Introduction The Office of Performance Analysis and Integrity manages and enhances the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) which resides on one Oracle M8 Supercluster database and thirteen application servers. Our team provides the technical services required to sustain EDW applications, including Project Management, Data Warehouse Management, Advanced Analytics, Tableau Server Administration/Tableau Desktop Administration, Technical Collaboration Support, Lessons Learned, Executive Orders and Special Projects, Architectural Enhancement, and Cloud Migration. We also provide management, enhancement, integration, implementation, maintenance, modernization, and infrastructure support for EDW applications and enhancement and maintenance of business intelligence capabilities and predictive analytics.

9th Way Insignia is looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join our team.

Professional Level Information The Senior Database Administrator aligns to the Engineer 3 professional level within 9th Way Insignia’s career families. An Engineer 3 typically plans and directs research or development work on complex projects, engages various parties in design and development, and may be involved in cost and recommendation analysis for new components. They oversee the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems, demonstrating broad engineering knowledge and strong problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

Serve as the night‑shift backup when the night‑shift DBA is unavailable (hours 11:30 PM–8:30 AM).

Monitor Oracle, OBIEE, and Informatica servers.

Use tools such as AppDynamics and Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor application and storage performance, availability, and usage.

Troubleshoot and resolve CPU performance issues and system resource bottlenecks.

Implement Oracle database performance tuning and improvement processes, including AWR analysis, SQL tuning, partitioning, and parallel execution.

Monitor nightly Informatica processes.

Execute daily backup and recovery strategies using RMAN.

Upgrade, patch, and configure OBIEE and Informatica servers—patching experience is highly emphasized.

Configure and maintain OBIEE security (object‑level and data‑level access) to enforce least privilege.

Act as a strong OBIEE administrator, collaborating with developers to optimize dashboards, queries, and metadata models (RPD).

Collaborate with OBIEE/Informatica/Tableau/Power BI developers to develop performance improvement strategies and plans for execution.

Manage object partitioning and parallel executions.

Develop database compression strategies and improve storage efficiency.

Coordinate patching and version upgrades with the VA’s Office of Information Technology.

Prepare, deliver, and maintain reports and technical documentation, including root‑cause analysis (RCA) write‑ups.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronic engineering, or another engineering technical discipline (eight years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for a degree).

Minimum of five years supporting Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) applications.

Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and Recovery Manager (RMAN).

Experience migrating Oracle database and BI tools from on‑premise to cloud environments.

Experience implementing Oracle database performance tuning and improvement processes.

Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.

Currently cleared for Public Trust at tier 2 moderate level or higher.

Experience with troubleshooting Oracle GoldenGate replication issues and supporting data sync between source and target environments (preferred).

Experience supporting OBIEE applications.

Location Five days per week onsite at 1800 G St., NW, Washington, DC 20006.

Salary Range $115,000 – $120,000 USD.
