Overview The Senior Database Administrator will design, implement, and maintain robust PostgreSQL database architectures supporting mission-critical applications. This role ensures high performance, availability, and security while collaborating with development teams to optimize database interactions.
Responsibilities
Design and implement database architectures for performance, availability, and security.
Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases.
Conduct performance tuning of queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
Develop and implement backup, recovery, and failover procedures.
Assist in designing and developing data models and database solutions.
Collaborate with development teams to optimize database code in application layers.
Provide guidance on database best practices to IT staff and stakeholders.
Ensure database infrastructure remains current with technology trends and security patches.
Maintain documentation for database configurations and procedures.
Serve as the primary point of contact for database-related queries and technical support.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or 4 years of experience in lieu of a degree).
8+ years of experience in database administration, with strong PostgreSQL expertise.
Proficiency in SQL and PL/pgSQL.
Familiarity with Linux/Unix and scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl).
Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery strategies for PostgreSQL.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
Top Secret clearance required.
Preferred
PostgreSQL certification.
Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, OCI) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with other database systems (Oracle, MSSQL).
Salary range: $125,000 – $189,000 per year.
Seniority level: Mid‑Senior level
