Embedded Software Engineering Manager - Tier-1 Automotive Leader
Are you an embedded software engineering leader in the Bay Area with a passion for emerging automotive technologies? Join a cutting‑edge team at a well‑known, European Tier‑1 automotive technology innovator to lead a team of engineers at their new R&D facility in Sunnyvale. In this critical role, you’ll lead a multidisciplinary embedded software engineering team working on complex mechatronic software solutions for next‑generation automotive systems. This role involves coordination across multiple R&D functions and engineering teams in the US and Europe supporting the development of safety‑critical embedded software in compliance with rigorous automotive standards.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the execution of local software development projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and continuous improvement goals.
Lead and expand the local engineering team in line with global R&D strategy (around 12 engineers for now).
Define and maintain standard technical infrastructure requirements for the facility, including benches, hardware/software tools, and licenses. Manage related budgets and oversee procurement and maintenance activities.
Ensure software development activities comply with established processes and industry standards (e.g., ASPICE, ISO 26262).
Promote internal knowledge sharing and support talent development within the engineering center.
Recruit, onboard, and grow technical talent through structured integration and development plans.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Automation Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in embedded software roles, preferably within automotive OEMs or Tier‑1 suppliers.
Strong understanding of automotive mechatronics products and development processes.
Proven project management skills for complex systems and cross‑functional teams.
Familiarity with industry‑standard software development methodologies and tools (e.g., Model‑Based Design, Automotive SPICE, code versioning systems, issue tracking, requirements management).
Knowledge of control systems, particularly in automotive applications.
Experience with MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow and auto‑code generation tools (e.g., Embedded Coder, TargetLink).
Hands‑on familiarity with embedded C programming, microcontroller development, and debugging using lab equipment is a plus.
Why This Role? In this highly visible role, you’ll be leading the company’s largest software engineering team in the United States, acting as a critical bridge between the US engineering team and the European headquarters. Future leadership opportunities include expanding this role’s scope in the US, leading different teams in the US or taking on technical leadership roles in Europe or Asia.
