Astranis Space Technologies
Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, expanding humanity’s reach into the solar system. Today, Astranis satellites provide dedicated, secure networks to highly‑sophisticated customers across the globe—large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. With five satellites on orbit and many more set to launch soon, the company is servicing a backlog of more than $1 billion of commercial contracts.
Astranis is the preferred satellite communications partner for buyers with stringent requirements for uptime, data security, network visibility, and customization. Astranis has raised over $750 million from world‑renowned investors, employs a team of 450 engineers and entrepreneurs, and operates out of its 153,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Northern California, USA.
Role Summary As a Senior Reliability Test Engineer, you will be tasked with the unique challenge of working at the intersection of all engineering disciplines to ensure our hardware meets the highest level of quality and reliability. As Astranis scales up production of its satellites, we need to establish a robust reliability test program to aid in the development of new product designs, monitor manufacturing process health, and screen for long‑term reliability defects.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement reliability test strategies for new products to maximize field life and minimize early life failures
Work closely with hardware and software engineering teams to maximize reliability across all disciplines
Design and execute novel environmental, RF, mechanical, and electrical testing techniques tailored to the product and its functions
Write test programs to exercise the functionality of the product over various conditions and environments
Automate reliability test initiatives and reporting using proper data visualization techniques and thorough knowledge of the product and its functions
Define the ongoing reliability testing strategy to monitor the manufacturing process health and screen for long‑term reliability defects caused by process and component variability
Root cause systemic production issues or failures found in test and drive design or process changes to meet long‑term reliability goals
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
5+ years of experience in test, analysis, manufacturing, or hardware development
Thorough understanding and experience in environmental testing such as HALT/HASS, thermal, vibration and TVAC
Programming experience in Python, C, and SQL with an emphasis on data analysis and automation
Demonstrated capability to think creatively and solve complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule
Thorough understanding of electronics reliability and failure mechanisms
Demonstrated ability to work in a highly cross‑functional role
Must be onsite 5 days a week
Bonus
Experience with both electronics and mechanical design and analysis including knowledge of RF principles
Experience in a fast‑paced, iterative design environment within the consumer electronics, medical devices, aerospace, marine, or automotive industries
Demonstrated application of design or process validation and control methods such as DFMEA, PFMEA, design of experiments (DOE), and statistical process control (SPC)
Thorough understanding of electrical schematics and electronics manufacturing to analyze and improve test coverage
Hands‑on experience qualifying and maintaining manufacturing processes for electronics and/or mechanical assemblies
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Ability to produce executive‑level reports and presentations to efficiently convey information about large data sets
What We Offer All our positions offer a compensation package that includes equity and robust benefits. Base pay is a single component of Astranis’s total rewards package, which may also include equity in the form of incentive stock options, high‑quality company‑subsidized healthcare, disability and life insurance benefits, flexible PTO, 401(k) retirement, and free on‑site catered meals.
Base Salary: $130,000—$180,000 USD
U.S. Citizenship, Lawful Permanent Residency, or Refugee/Asylee Status Required
(To comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the United States, or other protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3))
Our mission and our products are meant to connect the world and everyone in it, regardless of gender, race, creed, or any other distinction. We believe in a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we encourage all people to join our team and bring their unique perspective to help make us stronger.
