Job Summary About Sinai Health System Located on Chicago’s West and Southwest Side, Sinai Health System comprises Mount Sinai Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, Sinai Children’s Hospital, Sinai Community Institute, Sinai Medical Group, and Sinai Urban Health Institute. The entities of Sinai Health System collectively deliver a full range of quality inpatient and outpatient services, as well as numerous innovative, community-based health, research and social service programs. A partner with the Jewish United Fund in serving our community Mount Sinai Hospital 5 North is a 43-bed medical/surgical unit staffed by registered nurses, CNAs, Unit Secretaries, and Telemetry Techs. Imbedded within 5 North is a four-bed Medical Step-down Unit (MSU), to which patients requiring a higher level of monitoring and care are admitted. The patients who are admitted to 5 North require non-invasive cardiac monitoring due to acute or chronic illnesses. Patients who require long-term mechanical ventilation also make up our patient population. Mt. Sinai Hospital is a Certified Chest Pain Center and a Primary Stroke Center; patients meeting inclusion criteria for either of these are admitted to 5 North as well. The caregivers on 5 North/MSU are committed to providing excellent care to all patients that we serve. We believe that education and discharge planning are the keys to patients and families having the tools necessary to provide self-care at home. We work closely with our physicians, social workers, physical therapists, dietitians, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure that our patients and their families receive the highest level of care and information so that the best healthcare decisions can be made. Staffing and scheduling is always of concern to our nursing staff. Caregivers can enter their requested schedule via self-scheduling, as well as request days off, shift switches, and overtime shifts. We are moving toward a patient: RN ratio of 4:1 and expanding our MSU to nine beds to better meet the needs of our patients. Provide direct patient care on a 43-bed medical/surgical unit (5 North) and a four-bed Medical Step-down Unit (MSU) with non-invasive cardiac monitoring. Collaborate with physicians, social workers, physical therapists, dietitians, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive care and informed discharge planning. Support education for patients and families to enable effective self-care after discharge. Assist with or coordinate care planning to meet evolving patient needs and clinical indications. Benefits
