North Carolina State University is seeking an Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (Provost) to lead academic strategy and operations at its flagship research institution located in Raleigh, NC. The position is a full‑time appointment with a 12‑month recurring term.

Essential Job Duties

Advance the academic mission of the university and advocate for the success of the academic enterprise.

Lead the academic planning process, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across programs and with other university units.

Build faculty capacity and enhance the quality of the faculty experience.

Manage institutional and organizational change at a brisk pace while minimizing disruption.

Partner with the chief financial officer to oversee allocation of state funds for enrollment and tuition, aligning resources with strategic priorities.

Strategically manage resources in times of financial constraint, reallocating funds as needed to maintain balance.

Work collaboratively with the chancellor and senior officers, navigating the political context of a public institution.

Provide transparency and trustworthiness to cultivate a climate of mutual respect on and off campus.

Ensure a focus on student academic success and a positive collegiate experience.

Support the university’s research portfolio and priorities as guided by the vice chancellor of research and innovation.

Partner with the vice chancellor and dean for Academic and Student Affairs to promote student support programs.

Advance NC-State’s entrepreneurial spirit and support the development of the state and region.

Promote global commitments and international engagement of students and faculty.

Contribute to institutional growth by building extramural and philanthropic support.

Other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience:

A doctoral, terminal, or equivalent professional degree with a record of achievement that warrants appointment as a full professor with tenure in accord with NC-State’s standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated record of excellence in scholarship, teaching, grant support and professional service.

Experience managing a large department, school or college, or prior provost or comparable academic leadership.

Proven fiscal responsibility and administrative skills.

Understanding of the land‑grant mission and the complexities of a large research university.

Record of success in team and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Strong track record of faculty recruitment, development and retention.

Demonstrated fundraising ability and relationships with external constituencies.

Success working with a broad student constituency and supporting academic achievement for all students.

Experience with student affairs and aligning academic enterprise with student support services.

Knowledge of NCAA Division I athletics challenges and opportunities relevant to the student experience.

Strong written and verbal communication and credibility with stakeholders.

Adaptive leadership to respond to a rapidly changing environment and continually improve program quality.
