Health Care Advocate
PIRG seeks an Advocate to lead our effort to lower health care prices and improve the quality of patient care across the United States. Our complex health care system is riddled with perverse incentives that jack up prices of healthcare with little to show for improvement in the quality of care we receive.
Responsibilities
Help develop programs and campaigns, including researching the issue, identifying viable policy solutions, and proposing smart political strategy and messaging.
Build relationships with decision-makers in regulatory agencies, state houses, and Congress, and make the best case for our policies.
Work with Senior Directors to develop plans to win on our campaigns; assess opportunities for building political support through grassroots organizing, media coverage, endorsements, and message development.
Meet with coalition partners who share concerns about health care and work together to maximize our influence.
Write grant proposals, build relationships with foundation staff, and meet with major donors to support fundraising efforts.
Serve as the spokesperson for our campaigns through media events, press releases, and opinion writing, and raise the profile of high value health care issues in the media.
Recruit new staff, interns and volunteers and provide training and leadership development opportunities; potential to oversee campaign associates.
Qualifications Candidates must have at least 3-8 years of relevant professional experience. Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to public interest or consumer issues and to citizen-based social change. We’re looking for goal-driven, results-oriented people who have excellent verbal, written and analytical skills, the ability to speak persuasively in a charged atmosphere, and want to make positive policy change. Experience with health policy is a must.
Compensation and Benefits The starting annual compensation range for this position for someone with 3-8 years of experience is
$39,750
–
$55,000 . PIRG offers an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, time off, a commuter benefit program, a 401(k) plan with employer match, parental leave, long‑term disability insurance, and may include needs‑based student loan assistance.
