Location: Middle School Teen/Center, Fort Drum, NY

Childcare Fee Details

Available to MWR CYS Regular and FLEX (working a minimum of 15 hours).

First Child: 100% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees).

Eligibility

U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or those who owe allegiance to the U.S.

U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation and currently residing in the local commuting area (defined as a 100-mile radius) of Fort Drum.

Duties

Serves as a CYS Supervisory Program Specialist with responsibility for supervising CYS direct care staff (minimum of 8 ratios of children in a Child Development Center (Ages 0‑5) or 6 ratios of children/youth in a School‑Age Program or Youth).

Prepares work schedules to meet ratio and group size requirements, provides program oversight and accountability, monitors and analyzes adult/participant ratio sheets to ensure proper staffing and that children are supervised at all times.

Assists with recruitment and selection of caregiving staff utilizing Army CYS Standard Position Descriptions, supervises and evaluates employees based on established performance standards, ensures timely submission of personnel actions.

Assists directors and training specialist to plan, coordinate, and implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of children and youth.

Acts as Assistant Director or Director in their absence up to 20% of the time; may work in additional CYS facilities for the purposes of providing management oversight for evening or weekend openings.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A one‑year probationary period may be required.

Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E‑Verify) check.

Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.

Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre‑employment checks in accordance with AR 215‑3, para 2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.

The Crime Control Act must be successfully completed and maintained.

Must have current health assessment which documents good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations in accordance with current Army and DoD policy including annual influenza vaccinations.

Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements and demonstrated on‑job competency is required.

Travel to on and off post locations required.

May be subject to irregular hours, evenings, and/or weekends.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less).

Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study (at least 24 semester hours) in the fields appropriate to the position (education must be directly related to the position; general psychology/sociology courses do not qualify).

For positions in Youth Facilities, education must be in youth development, youth administration, education, home economics, physical education, elementary education, special education or other fields appropriate to the position.

OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in a subject matter field (24 semester hours) plus appropriate experience or additional coursework that provides comparable knowledge.

Additional required experience: supervising or leading caregivers within child/youth facility‑based programs; managing a classroom setting within child and youth programs; implementing and overseeing a structured child and youth program curriculum; demonstrated verbal communication skills through training, presentations, meetings with parents and/or staff.
