Caton Construction Group – Grade Foreman
Caton Construction Group is growing and seeks a Grade Foreman for our roadway construction project in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina (Cornelius).
Summary / Objective The Grade Foreman is a field position that organizes and leads a crew to safely and efficiently perform mass earthwork and excavating activities, balancing highway and road construction/reconstruction. The Foreperson works under the general direction of the Superintendent.
Essential Functions
Coordinating construction work according to priorities and plans.
Plan, organize, and lead grading crew.
Produce schedules and monitor attendance of crew.
Allocate general and daily responsibilities.
Schedule aggregate material quantities and deliveries; determine trucking needs and schedule trucks.
Supervise and train workers and tradespeople.
Ensure labor and other resources are adequate.
Guarantee all safety precautions and quality standards are met.
Supervise the use of machinery and equipment.
Monitor expenditure and ensure it remains within budget.
Resolve problems when they arise.
Report on progress to managers, engineers, etc.
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work Full‑time. Normal days and hours of work are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with time provided for lunch; hours may vary. Work may be local or out of town, requiring overnight stays. This position frequently requires long hours and weekend work.
Travel / Driving Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be expected. Driver’s license is required.
Supervisory Responsibility Assigning work to subordinates, establishing deadlines, and modifying work schedules to meet deadlines as needed.
Required Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Proven experience as a construction foreman.
Diploma in a skilled trade (electrician, carpenter, etc.) – a plus.
