Responsibilities

Shared 24/7 accountability with the Nursing Operations Manager.

Participate in recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new team members.

Coordinate with the Unit/Department Nursing Operations Manager and Human Resources on corrective action, progressive discipline, and career advancement.

Investigate event reports and provide feedback to the Nursing Operations Manager and team members.

Oversee unit staffing schedules to ensure an appropriate mix of staff for each shift.

Maintain oversight of patient flow and intervene as needed to achieve expected outcomes.

Perform Nurse Leader rounds and reviews, identifying variances from nursing best practice and regulatory or hospital standards.

Lead process/quality improvement initiatives to improve outcomes and standard work.

Ensure the customer experience is upheld and provide service recovery to patients and families.

Interface with patients and families to provide instruction, promote participation in patient care.

Lead staff meetings, GEMBA boards, or huddles, and demonstrate ownership of unit outcomes.

Perform direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs.

Possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Respect the rights and privacy of others and hold staff member information in strict confidence.

Ensure incident reports are completed appropriately and follow up with event reports as needed.

Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Leadership

Express ideas clearly and effectively in verbal and written communication to team members and groups.

Advocate for nursing staff to represent the concerns of patients, families, and staff.

Demonstrate superior clinical and critical thinking skills for the unit/department.

Performance/Quality Improvement

Monitor compliance and outcomes to identify issues and trends, and lead the team on process/quality improvement initiatives.

Ensure practice changes are evidence‑based, promote high‑quality nursing practice, and align with research, organization, and national standards.

Manage time and resources efficiently to maximize unit productivity.

Promote cost‑effective management of equipment and supplies.

Qualifications Education / Training

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required if no Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

MSN, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or BSN with a graduate degree in business or a health‑related field preferred.

Licensure / Certification

Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).

Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

May require one or more of the following certifications based on patient population:

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)

Experience

Two (2) years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute setting.
