Reporting to the Sr. Director, SH&E Retail, this position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental programs supporting soil testing laboratory operations for Waypoint Analytical. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, promotes a culture of safety, and supports environmental stewardship in all lab activities.
What You'll Do
Comply with OSHA standards: 29 CFR 1910.1450 – Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories
29 CFR 1910.1200 – Hazard Communication Standard (HCS)
29 CFR 1910 – PPE – Subpart I
Maintain and enforce a Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) and train staff
Ensure proper labeling, storage, and disposal of chemicals per EPA and RCRA guidelines
Coordinate with regulatory agencies for inspections and reporting, including EPA soil sampling protocols
Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses for lab operations (chemical handling, compressed gases, ergonomics)
Investigate incidents and near misses; lead root cause analysis and corrective actions
Ensure proper use and maintenance of safety equipment (fume hoods, eyewash stations, spill kits)
Lead safety training on PPE, emergency response, and lab practices
Monitor employee exposure to hazardous substances; maintain OSHA compliance records
Oversee soil sample testing for contaminants: heavy metals, pesticides, PCBs, PFAS
Ensure waste segregation, storage, and disposal per EPA and RCRA standards
Support environmental audits and reporting (TCLP, CERCLA assessments)
Advise on SH&E for new equipment, renovations, and process changes
What You'll Bring
High school diploma
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational safety, chemistry, or related field
CSP, CIH, CHMM, or similar preferred (or willingness to obtain)
Minimum 5 years in HSE roles, preferably in laboratory or industrial settings
Travel to lab sites (up to 60%)
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Experience working in lab environments with exposure to chemicals
Wear PPE including gloves, lab coats, respirators
Pass medical clearance for respirator use
Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, RCRA, and laboratory safety standards
Excellent communication and training skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities
