Professional Development Practitioner (Surgical Services) – Northeast Hospital
Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a Professional Development Practitioner to execute educational experiences that promote competent and quality patient care. The role supports clinical staff in acquiring knowledge and skills and focuses on reducing Surgical Site Infections (SSIs) in non‑sterile procedural areas while participating in internal quality improvement programs.
Job Summary Full‑time, Monday‑Friday schedule. The Practitioner reports to the campus Manager or Director of Clinical Education and Professional Development. Primarily a procedural educator role with emphasis on education, competency management, and evidence‑based practice.
Key Responsibilities
Design and deliver clinical education content using diverse learning methods.
Conduct needs assessments, gap analyses and monitor competency compliance.
Apply Nursing Professional Development standards and participate in interprofessional collaboration.
Coach preceptors and orientees, assess orientation progress and provide feedback.
Monitor internal and external environments for professional practice opportunities and challenges.
Ensure safe patient care, adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures and standards, and maintain budgetary specifications.
Promote professional growth by completing mandatory and continuing education requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
Registered Nurse (RN) required, Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Two (2) years of nursing experience required; one (1) year education‑related experience preferred.
MSN preferred; Peri‑Op or Cardiac Certification preferred.
Procedural/Surgery RN experience 2+ years preferred; Experience in Endoscopy/Cath Lab/IR/Surgery preferred.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
