Job Purpose
Responsible for the occupational health, safety, environmental, and loss control management of Progress Rail Muncie facility. Provides facility level management of Environmental, Health and Safety Strategies, policies and processes. Responsible for evaluating, developing, planning, directing, training, and implementing environmental, safety, and health initiatives that will ensure a safe, healthy and accident‑free working environment. Location
Muncie, Indiana Key Responsibilities
Manage EHS related responsibilities for the Muncie Locomotive facility Provide direct supervision for EHS Representative for the Muncie Locomotive facility Perform inspections and tests planned to provide experience and familiarization with company operations, specific EHS issues and regulations, and company practices Collect and evaluate data Manage various environmental programs Oversee and manage various aspects of EHS programs within the facility Assist less experienced professionals in developing solutions Deliver and develop a variety of training programs Effectively use and navigate Progress Rail’s Environmental Safety System (PRESS) Assist in preparation of environmental compliance audits and inspections Document, report, and perform root cause analysis of spills and chemical releases Serve as primary on‑site point of contact for environmental compliance issues within manufacturing operations Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements Work with facility operations to meet EHS expectations and improve operating metrics Manage development and implementation of policies and directives for the facility Maintain records and data necessary to evaluate compliance with regulatory and company standards Other duties as assigned Education and Training
BS Degree in Environmental, Scientific, Chemical, Civil, Safety or Engineering or equivalent experience Qualifications
3‑5 years of EHS related experience in an industrial setting Experience with State and Federal environmental regulations Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with a wide variety of audiences Experience with Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Valid driver’s license First Aid/CPR/AED certification Preferred Experience
5‑7+ years of EHS experience Experience in Locomotive Manufacturing / Re‑manufacturing industry Experience with SAFE START or similar safety program Experience managing/handling compliance issues, permitting for all media, manufacturing operations, OSHA/EPA programs, regulatory reviews, permit preparation, reporting and record keeping OSHA 10/30 hour; RCRA; HAZWOPER; HAZWASTE; DOT 181; Industrial Hygiene classes (CIH) Safety certification (CSP, ASP, etc.) Essential Functions
Strength – Position typically involves work in a standard office environment. Occasional standing and walking. Heavy lifting is rare, but may be required Motion – Position regularly requires standard repetitive motions hand/eye coordination associated with office communications. May require bending, lifting, standing, walking, etc. in cases where safety investigations require them Vision/Hearing Requirements – Constant verbal communications, including both talking and hearing Work Environment – Position is safety sensitive and will require the use of personal protective equipment. Position may involve work in a non‑temperature controlled facility. Position will require regular visits to industrial environment, including potential for noise (85+ decibels), cold/heat (0‑100 degrees F), exposure to hazardous materials, heavy equipment, high levels of dust, and other hazardous working conditions. May be required to remain for long periods of time in hazardous work environments to investigate and mitigate accidents/ incidents Emotional Demands – High level of responsibility. Must be available 24/7 in case of emergencies/ incidents. Responsible for mission critical compliance. Requires significant interpersonal skills while bearing a very high standard for compliance Safety – Position is safety sensitive and will require the use of personal protective equipment Benefits
