Water Utilities Engineer – Hydraulics Engineer/Modeler Join AECOM to lead water utility planning assignments at our Raleigh, NC, Charlotte, NC, Miami, FL, Tampa, FL, Atlanta, GA, Columbia, SC, Roanoke, VA, or Virginia Beach, VA offices. This role features a hybrid schedule with remote and office work and occasional national travel.

Job Description As a Water Utilities Engineer, you will evaluate potable and reclaimed water distribution systems, conduct capacity analysis and condition assessments, and develop master plans for federal, private, and municipal clients. You will collaborate with our Southeast Modeling Group and support regional and occasional national projects.

Responsibilities

Plan drinking water utility systems, including supply, transmission, pumping, storage, and distribution.

Develop and calibrate hydraulic models using AutoDesk Innovyze, Bentley WaterGEMS, ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office.

Conduct simulations, interpret results, and prepare technical reports on hydraulic modeling work.

Present findings to clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders, and provide training when needed.

Lead a team of Level 1 and Level 2 hydraulic modelers and train them in software and skills.

Assist with task and effort estimates for proposals.

Apply engineering principles and judgment to solve technical problems with limited scope.

Gather and correlate primary engineering data, perform calculations, and conduct engineering analysis.

Work collaboratively and independently in a dynamic team environment.

Record and interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to local, state, and federal regulations.

Work under supervision of senior-level team members on hydraulic modeling assignments.

Maintain positive relationships with peers and clients.

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS in civil, environmental, or related engineering + 4 years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.

Experience with water system hydraulic modeling software (Autodesk Innovyze and Bentley WaterGEMS).

GIS knowledge and experience working through the GIS platform.

Ability to travel up to 2 weeks at a time for occasional field investigations.

U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

6 years of related experience or demonstrated experience.

Enthusiastic, hard‑working, technically proficient with ambition and drive.

P.E. in North Carolina or ability to obtain the license within 6 months.

Experience with wastewater modeling software such as Autodesk InfoWorks.

Experience in planning, permitting, and designing water distribution, storage, and pumping projects.

Engineering Intern certificate.
