We are looking for a Director of Accounting + Finance to support our fiscal growth. This role will manage our accounting processes and support financial operations of the company. They will be a resource for the leadership team in decision making, a key partner for departments, and an important contributor to the long-term planning of the business. This person needs to be extremely detail oriented, able to maintain high quality accounting processes in a fast paced environment, and able to support teams across the business with critical analysis. We’re looking for someone who takes ownership, is proactive in identifying and acting on opportunities, and makes thoughtful, long-term decisions that reinforce the strength of the brand.
Responsibilities
Lead the month-end close and ensure timely, accurate financial statements, including all balance sheet and P&L reconciliations
Own all daily accounting operations including AP, AR, cash management, payroll accounting, expense management, and general ledger integrity
Maintain GAAP compliant accounting policies, internal controls, documentation, and procedures and continuously strengthen the control environment
Manage all business taxes, including sales tax compliance, payroll tax, and coordination of state and federal income tax filings prepared by external partners
Manage the annual audit process and ongoing relationships with external auditors, tax advisers, and other financial partners
Identify and implement technology improvement by leveraging existing technology infrastructure and areas for new technology
Standardize and implement business financial processes by working across teams to identify highest priority opportunities
Prepare and distribute internal and external financial reporting, including monthly management reporting, KPI dashboards, lender reporting, and board materials
Perform ad hoc financial and operational analysis to support decision making in areas such as pricing, margin optimization, freight/fulfillment, labor costs, store performance, and capital expenditures
Assist with budget creation, perform regular budget vs actual analysis, and identify and communicate areas for cost control or improvement
Preparing financial statements, key metric reports, budgets, forecasts, cashflow projections, and analyses
Hiring, training and managing skilled accounting staff as we scale the team and business
Managing all payroll and benefit programs from a financial perspective
Qualifications
At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a high growth environment
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
A CPA or MBA is preferred
Previous experience in ecommerce and/or DTC retail is highly valued with strong inventory experience
Excellent communication and management skills
Experience with modern software technology including Shopify, QBO, ERP systems, WMS/IMS tools, Bill.com, and expense management systems
Strong knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Skilled at planning, organizing, and controlling complex processes as well as analyzing financial information
