The Director of Teaching and Learning plays a vital role in ensuring academic excellence, innovative instruction, and mission-driven learning at Ursuline Academy of Dallas. Reporting to the Dean of Academics, the Director of Teaching and Learning provides leadership and support for faculty and department chairs in advancing pedagogical practices that reflect how high school girls learn best. This leader oversees professional development, new teacher mentoring and onboarding, and the strategic integration of technology and artificial intelligence to enhance teaching and learning. Rooted in the Ursuline mission, the Director of Teaching and Learning ensures that every program reflects Ursuline Academy’s Catholic identity and commitment to educating young women for service and leadership in the spirit of St. Angela Merici. The Director of Teaching and Learning is a visionary for the school and celebrates the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.

The Director of Teaching and Learning is a 10-month position, however, may have summer responsibilities.

General Authority The Director of Teaching and Learning reports directly to the Dean of Academics, who reports to the Principal of Ursuline Academy of Dallas.

The Director of Teaching and Learning provides supervision and leadership for the Academic Department Chairs.

Key Accountabilities

Ensure that the Catholic identity of Ursuline Academy is clearly visible in all professional learning initiatives, instructional practices, and academic programs.

Serve as an instructional leader and expert in classroom pedagogy, with a deep understanding of how high school girls learn best.

Partner with faculty to enhance classroom instruction through effective use of technology and emerging AI tools that foster engagement, creativity, and student learning.

Model and promote best practices in teaching and learning, remaining current on educational research, innovations in pedagogy, and advancements in technology and AI.

Oversee and support academic department chairs in advancing teacher growth, evaluation, and accountability.

Lead and manage the professional development program, ensuring alignment with Ursuline’s mission and academic goals.

Oversee and implement the new teacher mentor program and the onboarding process for new faculty to ensure they are welcomed, supported, and fully integrated into the school community.

Observe classes regularly to provide formative feedback, coaching, and instructional support to teachers and department chairs.

Collaborate closely with the Dean of Academics to maintain academic standards, support curricular innovation, and ensure continuous improvement across departments.

Design and lead faculty workshops, learning communities, and collaborative opportunities for professional growth.

Support and help lead the school’s accreditation and self-study processes, especially in areas related to teaching quality and instructional innovation.

Responsibilities and Activities

Coordinate and facilitate ongoing professional development aligned with school priorities, student needs, and educational trends.

Partner with the Dean of Academics to guide department chairs in data-informed decision-making and goal setting for teacher growth.

Evaluate and recommend instructional technologies that enhance learning outcomes and streamline classroom processes.

Provide training and resources for effective technology and AI integration in teaching and learning.

Support teachers in designing inclusive and engaging lessons that promote collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving.

Ensure that new teachers receive clear guidance, resources, and mentorship during their first years at Ursuline.

Lead the Academic Department Chairs to ensure curricular coherence, alignment, and continuous improvement.

Participate in school leadership meetings and serve on committees as requested by the Dean of Academics or Principal.

Maintain strong communication with faculty, department chairs, and academic leadership to ensure clarity, alignment, and shared vision.

All other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

A deep commitment to the mission of Ursuline Academy of Dallas and its Catholic identity.

Readiness to carry out the Catholic Church’s mission of ensuring the formation of students’ faith and intellectual development illumined by Gospel message.

Demonstrated expertise in pedagogy, instructional coaching, and curriculum design.

Successful experience teaching or leading at the secondary level, preferably in an all-girls or Catholic school setting.

Master’s degree required, with preference for a degree in Instruction, Curriculum, or Educational Leadership.

Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.

Ability to inspire, coach, and build trust with teachers and department chairs.

Demonstrated curiosity, adaptability, and commitment to lifelong learning.

An enthusiastic Advisor as a part of Ursuline’s Advisory program.

In addition to the above responsibilities, full-time faculty at Ursuline Academy serve as advisors, actively participate in non-academic student activities such as moderating clubs, chaperoning events, and student supervision, and pursue professional development opportunities as they join a Catholic, independent school culture.
