Job Summary The Director of Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction works collaboratively with the University community in planning, designing, and constructing facilities in support of the instruction, research, and public service functions of the University. Collaborates with campus partners to support broader institutional sustainability and resilience goals through the built environment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in engineering, architecture or related area. And at least five years of significant experience in providing leadership in the planning or management of facilities construction, including working knowledge of:

Capital facilities construction processes

Facilities management practices

Personnel management and training, and

Budget management and capital funding

Documented experience in providing oversight and management of a major capital improvement program.

Understanding of governmental and higher education budgeting, policy and practices associated with facilities.

Strong collaborative interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive and effective relationships across campus with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external constituencies, as required.

Thorough knowledge of the methods, practice and procedures of facilities planning, administrative policies, capital outlay and funding policies and practices related to an educational or public institution, including the use of creative funding mechanisms.

Ability to effectively communicate complex information clearly in written and oral format to a variety of audiences.

Demonstrated ability to be a creative problem-solver, a strategic thinker and decision-maker.

Demonstrated commitment to quality, customer service, staff development and safety.

Ability to prioritize projects based on the needs of the University.

Ability to set goals for direct reports to meet project deadlines as established.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful and progressive professional and administrative experience in facilities planning and management in higher education.

Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and code requirements related to facilities and related areas.

Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to work in a large institutional environment.
