Overview
Registered Nurse II - Hematology Oncology Unit, with a $15,000 Sign-on Bonus. 2500024A Hematology/Oncology Care Unit (HCU) includes the inpatient and outpatient Hematology, Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplant patients. The 32-bed inpatient unit admits children of all ages with hematological and/or oncology, and blood and marrow transplant inpatient clinical needs. Typical responsibilities include care for: newly diagnosed oncology diseases (leukemia/lymphoma, solid tumors, neuro oncology); chemotherapy; sickle cell disease; pain crisis in hemoglobinopathy; bacteremia; acute chest syndrome/pneumonia; blood and marrow and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, Children\'s National Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. Children\'s National supports the development of RN relationships within the community; specifically those relationships associated with the health and well being of the community at large. Responsibilities
Transformational Leadership: Contribute to Magnet re-designation, update professional profile independently, participate in councils, committees, task forces and/or community outreach; demonstrate critical thinking during patient care; communicate to reflect plan of care and advocate to meet patient needs; escalate issues using the chain of command; use hand-off processes properly; maintain collegial relationships with ancillary staff; participate in implementing change and support management decisions; model empathy and a willingness to help others. Structural Empowerment: Maintain regulatory requirements (e.g., license, BLS); plan for mandatory education and professional activities; participate in peer evaluations; support departmental goals by adhering to safety and service standards; pursue education and certification; collaborate with the healthcare team and model professional behavior; know when to escalate to the next level; Exemplary Professional Practice: Use patient and family assessment data to complete the database and plan of care within identified timeframes; demonstrate clinical skills with complex patients; prioritize and organize for rapidly changing needs; ensure documentation meets high standards; anticipate educational needs for patient and family throughout the stay and discharge; demonstrate organizational skills and timely completion of assignments; provide compassionate care reflected in patient/family feedback and satisfaction. Safety: Speak up about unsafe behavior, verify information for decisions, pause to resolve uncertainties, communicate clearly and timely, promote safety for patients, families, visitors and staff; practice Stop, Think, Act, and Review to self-check performance. Organizational Accountabilities: New knowledge, innovations, and improvements; identify quality improvement opportunities and participate in implementation; seek self-learning and ensure care is evidence-based with literature and benchmarking. Qualifications
Education : BSN (Preferred) Experience : Minimum Work Experience — 1 year RN experience (Required) Skills/Knowledge : The licensed Registered Nurse will successfully complete the hospital and nursing orientation at Children’s National; keep knowledge base current with changes in the specialty area. Licenses & Certifications : Registered Nurse in District of Columbia (Required); Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Location & Schedule
