SteerBridge seeks experienced Security Engineers to support delivery efforts for our Modern Disability Claims ("MDC") project. This initiative is focused on modernizing claims processing systems for the Department of Veterans Affairs (the "VA") to enhance security, reliability, and operational efficiency in service of our nation’s veterans.
Responsibilities
Implement and enforce technical security controls across VA claims systems and infrastructure.
Apply and maintain Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to ensure system compliance.
Conduct regular vulnerability scans using Nessus and assist in tracking/remediating findings.
Support continuous monitoring of systems, utilizing SIEM tools to detect, investigate, and respond to security events.
Perform OS hardening for Windows, Linux, and cloud environments.
Assist with log aggregation, alerting, and incident response coordination.
Document security configurations, patching procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.
Support federal compliance initiatives including RMF-based assessments and audits.
Collaborate with security architects and engineers to implement secure solutions aligned with VA policies.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field.
An active Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
Experience / Qualifications
5–7 years of experience in cybersecurity, system security engineering, or IT security operations.
Proficiency with SIEM tools, Nessus, and other vulnerability management solutions.
Experience applying STIGs, hardening servers and workstations, and implementing system level security policies.
Familiarity with RMF, NIST 800-53, and federal IT security frameworks.
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work in cross-functional environments.
Preferred
Security certifications such as Security+, CEH, or GSEC.
Experience supporting VA or other federal healthcare IT systems.
Familiarity with cloud security (AWS, Azure) and endpoint protection platforms.
Strong communication skills for reporting and documenting security activities.
Salary $126,500 - $134,000 a year
A salary commensurate with experience will be offered.
