Description
All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, Children's National Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. Children's National supports the development of RN relationships within the community; specifically those relationships associated with the health and well being of the community at large. The RN III-IV Therapy nurse is an independent practitioner who will perform patient care activities focused on IV Therapy for a variety of patients in a service area. Will respond effectively to common patient care issues. Will work collaboratively with all members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care.
Qualifications Minimum Education
ASN (Required)
BSN (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience
2 years related clinical experience to include one year of pediatrics (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Successful completion of orientation at CNMC.
Demonstrates therapeutic communication skills.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse in District of Columbia (Required)
Functional Accountabilities Professional Practice/Research
Participate in Shared Leadership.
Contribute to CNMC’s Magnet Journey .
Ensure nursing practice is based on evidence of best practice.
Accountable to participate in the Division of Nursing’s Performance Improvement process (division or unit level).
Participate in community Activities.
Cooperate in the implementation of change and support management decisions.
IV Therapy Process
Start IVs and provide technical consultation on equipment, troubleshoot and assist infusion therapy.
Review immediate patient care needs related to IV therapy management and provide assistance to those needs based on the plan of care.
Initiate decision making in executing care, independently .
Document IV therapy in accordance with policies and procedures.
Promote positive outcomes for IV fluid therapy and continually strive to decrease complications through monitoring of IV sites.
Role model proficiency in nursing skills related to IV therapy management and clinical assessment, confidently.
Education
Display an ability to learn rapidly and adapt quickly to changing situations.
Able to identify learning needs for staff, patient and family based on expertise and knowledge in IV therapy .
Provide education as appropriate based on assessment of learning needs.
Maintain expertise in IV therapy treatment management, IV start and explore state of the art clinical practices and advances.
Participate in the orientation of staff.
Performance Improvement
Strive to continuously improve operations through quality improvement and work to sustain results.
Ensure accuracy of data, work and information as it relates to IV therapy.
Participate in performance improvement data collection, implementation and ongoing evaluation of IV therapy management.
Ensure compliance with hospital standards and infection control policies.
Continuously perform assessments of patient and family to ensure understanding of IV therapy.
Allow patient to express fears, concerns and ask questions.
Serve as an advocate for patient/family.
Encourage open communication to achieve mutual understanding.
