Position Summary Reporting to the Communications Director, the Communications Coordinator develops and implements marketing, advertising, and public relations plans for the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR). The role works closely with 2‑6 units within the division to set strategic marketing direction, manage project execution, and produce on‑brand content for press releases, web pages, emails, print materials, events, and more. The Coordinator enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of marketing efforts that promote fundraising, career development, and alumni engagement.
Responsibilities
Lead project planning and project management for 2-6 DAR units, including cultivating relationships, establishing timelines, and ensuring timely delivery.
Develop copy and support content creation for unit‑driven projects, ensuring adherence to AP Style and UGA brand guidelines.
Help maintain DAR websites, leading planning and delegating tasks, and making simple web updates.
Guide and advise assigned units on marketing and communications best practices.
Assist with non‑unit driven projects that are part of DAR and UGA initiatives, maintaining flexibility and collaborating with DAR/UGA personnel.
Collaborate with creative, communications, writing, and digital teams for concepting and production needs.
Communicate anticipated delays and maintain transparency with stakeholders.
Follow DARCOMM’s workflow processes and leverage the project management system for efficient completion.
Serve as a marketing resource and expert for units, staying updated on trends in the field.
Attend unit‑led events and programs that require on‑site presence.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience.
Experience working in project management systems, such as ASANA, Trello, Basecamp, etc.
Experience in media relations, digital advertising, email marketing, and/or social marketing.
Ability to manage 30+ projects with varying deadlines at any given time.
Knowledge of AP Style writing.
Design experience or familiarity with design programs is a bonus.
Experience in higher education and/or fundraising.
Exhibits behavior that supports the mission, vision, and values of the University of Georgia.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education and/or fundraising.
Experience in media relations, digital advertising, email marketing, and/or social marketing.
Project management experience in a complex environment.
Design experience or familiarity with design programs.
Knowledge of marketing trends and best practices.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to navigate complex projects and ensure completion on deadline.
Benefits Employee benefits eligibility for full‑time positions on a 12‑month basis with potential participation in the University’s defined benefit retirement plan. Eligibility for health, vision, dental, and life insurance benefits is dependent on the employee’s FTE status and hours worked.
Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
Physical Demands
Work in a standard office environment with background noise.
Sit at a computer workstation for extended periods of time.
Work using electronic mail, telephone, face‑to‑face discussions, paper correspondence.
Communicate effectively in writing, speaking, and listening.
Organize and establish priorities; remember details; multitask.
Lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Walk, stand, stoop, lift, kneel, climb.
