Overview
Job Description - Registered Nurse (RN) II - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) (2500020B). RN II - PICU, full-time, rotating shifts.
$25,000 Sign-on Bonus .
The PICU at Children's National is a 46-bed unit (expanding to 60 beds in 2027) and serves as a regional referral center and Level I Trauma Center for pediatric patients and their families. The unit provides 24/7 care with a multidisciplinary approach and supports patients admitted from the ED, Trauma Services, Operating Room, and transfers from other units or outside institutions. The PICU collaborates with intensivists and multiple specialty services, including a Pediatric Transport team for patient transfers.
The Division of Critical Care Medicine (CCM) delivers care for all PICU patients and emergencies, including resuscitation, life support, and complex monitoring. The department emphasizes a multi-disciplinary model and participates in Magnet-related activities and ongoing professional development.
Responsibilities
Provide high-quality nursing care in the PICU setting, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care plans.
Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical skills with complex pediatric patients and rapidly changing needs.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the health care team; advocate for patient needs; ensure safe handoffs using approved processes.
Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, social services, and other team members to coordinate care.
Participate in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and adherence to safety standards and regulations.
Model professional behavior, empathy, teamwork, and continued professional development; participate in change initiatives and organizational goals.
Utilize resources appropriately and escalate issues per chain of command when needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Education : ADN Required, BSN Preferred
Minimum Work Experience : 1 year RN experience (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge : Complete hospital and nursing orientation at Children’s National; maintain current knowledge in specialty area.
Required Licenses and Certifications : Registered Nurse license in District of Columbia or applicable states (DC/MD/VA depending on practice location); CPR certification.
