JOB TITLE: Director Pharmacy Services FLSA: Exempt DEPARTMENT: Hospital and Retail Pharmacy SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Director of Pharmacy Services directs, organizes, plans, and coordinates all activities of the hospital and retail Pharmacy Departments. The Director of Pharmacy Services assumes leadership and responsibility for the operation of those departments and works collaboratively with all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The Director studies, plans, organizes, and ensures all pharmacy product is available. Responsibilities include team development, program planning, service line growth, and monitoring of financial and human resources process improvements. Supports and contributes to the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Littleton Regional Healthcare with a continuous focus on excellence in customer service and patient care delivery. Participates in and accepts responsibility for functions delegated by the Chief Operating Officer. Ensures compliance with State and Federal requirements and the requirements of other governing agencies. Maintains annually required federal and state permits and licenses along with the proper documentation. Controls, evaluates, represents and reports on behalf of the Pharmacy Department to the State board of Pharmacy and Drug Enforcement Administration. Negotiates contracts and purchasing agreements with vendors, wholesalers, and organizations for pharmaceutical supplies and equipment. Maintains the medication formulary. Establishes and maintains a professional relationship with patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and the community. Assures confidentiality of patient and employee information at all times. Assess personal learning and professional growth needs and seeks educational opportunities to meet those needs. Participates in the recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention of personnel. Participates in planning and monitoring the capital and operational budget for assigned departments. Completes/contributes to performance appraisals of staff in conjunction with clinical counterpart. Facilitates educational needs of staff within each unit and assists in developing professional growth plans of the staff. Participates in the event management process and follow up with staff involved in events. Facilitates education and process improvements necessary. Participates in unit and organizational policy and decision making. Participates in the continuous Quality Improvement of the department. Collaborates with the Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee as well as Drug Diversion Team. REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer SUPERVISES: All hospital and retail pharmacy pharmacists as well as technicians. INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Patients, families, LRH employees, vendors, and medical staff. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited college of Pharmacy with a PharmD or RPH with equivalent experience. Licensed as a pharmacist in the state of New Hampshire. Experience/Specialized Skills: Three or more years of hospital experience with demonstrated administrative ability. Past administrative or directorship responsibilities are desirable. Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and lead with conviction. Required Education/Course(s)/Training: See Qualifications. Preferred Certification/Registration: None. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly spends more than 50% of workday standing and walking. Frequently lifts light to average loads.
