Description Gonzalez Companies is a partner managed firm that provides comprehensive Planning, Design, and Construction Management Services to large and small Water, Sewer and Utility Districts; Departments of Transportation; and municipalities. We are currently seeking a Construction Engineer to help serve our connection of clients and community. Your Primary Responsibilities will include
Oversee and manage construction projects from inception through completion, ensuring adherence to design plans, schedules, and budgets.
Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and municipal authorities.
Prepare and review construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Conduct site inspections to monitor quality, progress, and compliance with safety and building codes, including Illinois-specific and City of Chicago regulations.
Identify and resolve engineering or construction-related issues in a timely manner.
Assist in procurement of materials, equipment, and labor; review vendor and subcontractor performance.
Review project documentation, including contracts, RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, and change orders.
Implement construction best practices and innovative solutions to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
Ensure environmental compliance and sustainability standards are met, including stormwater management, erosion control, and permitting requirements in the Chicago region.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and field personnel.
Maintain accurate project records, reports, and progress documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
What you'll need
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois preferred.
3–7+ years of construction engineering or project management experience; municipal, transportation, or heavy civil projects in the Chicago area is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of local building codes, ordinances, and permitting processes, including Chicago Department of Buildings (DOB) regulations.
Experience with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
Excellent project planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to coordinate across teams and stakeholders.
Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA, local safety codes) and environmental compliance requirements.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
