Intermodal Terminal Manager - Houston

Position Summary The Intermodal Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the movement of freight from Ergon (internal) and external intermodal locations and communicating and visiting the port. This role ensures efficient coordination between terminals and customers to deliver cost-effective and timely logistics solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight: Manage daily intermodal operations including scheduling, routing, and tracking of shipments.
Carrier & Vendor Management: Build and maintain relationships with drayage providers, and other transportation partners.
Customer Service: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding shipment status, delays, and issue resolution.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure all operations comply with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including hazardous materials handling if applicable.
Cost Control & Budgeting: Monitor transportation costs and identify opportunities for savings through mode optimization and vendor negotiation.
Team Leadership: Supervise and train intermodal coordinators or dispatchers; foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Technology Utilization: Use transportation management systems (TMW), EDI platforms, and other logistics software to manage and report on operations.
Qualifications
Logistics, Business, or related field (preferred)
3–5 years of experience in intermodal or multimodal transportation management
Strong knowledge of port requirements and drayage operations
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with ports and terminal operations
Knowledge of customs and international shipping procedures
