Schedule 40 hours per week, Friday–Tuesday 10:45 pm – 7:15 am
Pay $21.40 – $30.00 per hour DOE. Additional $2.00 per hour for hours worked 10:45 pm–7:15 am.
Location 444 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA (Men’s Shelter)
Job Description The Guest Services Specialist (GSS) works under Pine Street Inn policy and procedures to ensure a safe shelter environment for guests and staff. The GSS focuses on the direct care of guests, responding to their needs promptly and professionally. Responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing a housing pathway, motivating guests to work toward housing.
Connecting guests with appropriate housing, substance abuse, mental health and medical resources when the shelter cannot safely accommodate their needs.
Staying energized and focused under ambiguous and strenuous demands.
Entering data into the Homeless Management Information (HMIS) system and documenting reports in accordance with agency policy.
Making sound decisions and seeking guidance from a supervisor when needed.
Requirements
High School diploma or GED.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the Human Services field.
Physical abilities: stand for long periods; stretch, bend and lift up to 25 lbs; assist guests up and down stairs, and in-and-out of wheelchairs; respond quickly to emergencies.
Mental abilities: respond safely, quickly, and calmly in emergencies; use good judgement in stressful or emotionally charged situations; exhibit sensitivity and patience with guests suffering from mental illness, alcohol and other drug addiction; be resilient in difficult and ambiguous situations; handle multiple assignments; communicate clearly verbally and in writing; comprehend and apply Motivational Interviewing and Trauma‑Informed Care skills; communicate/speak and listen non‑judgmentally.
Preferred
Valid MA driver’s license in good standing.
Bilingual in English/Spanish.
Experience administering Narcan in a work setting.
Knowledge of addiction, recovery, mental illness, homeless issues, and area resources.
