Gannett Fleming is looking for a Sr.

Rail Operations and Simulations Manager

to lead our Rail Operations practice. The successful candidate will lead our team to conduct in-depth technical analyses of railroad operations, including rail simulation modeling, infrastructure planning, service and operating plan development and evaluation, rail rolling stock performance evaluation in simulation, and signal block layout and control line design for light rail, heavy rail rapid transit, commuter rail, freight rail and mixed-use applications. Sr.

Rail Operations and Simulations Manager,

the successful candidate will lead the team of analysts and planners to develop and participate in a variety of rail network operations analyses, studies, computer simulation model development, testing and refinement, and technical report preparation addressing a wide range of operating, engineering, and performance issues. Additionally, the position will be responsible for strategy within the operations group, business development, and for staff development and deployment. Additional responsibilities include:

Construction phasing analysis for new rail infrastructure and rehabilitation projects implemented under traffic

Developing, testing and/or refining operating plans for existing and proposed systems and new or reconfigured train services on existing networks

Developing computer simulation models of existing and proposed rail infrastructure

Preparing and reviewing operations analysis reports

Coordinating Rail Operations assignments with other Transit and Rail disciplines on large project assignments

leading the preparation of technical and price proposals

Networking with clients and potential clients to understand and define rail operations work requirements

In addition, the interested and qualified candidate will have opportunities to become involved in project management

Developing Operating costs estimates based on established practices

Evaluating Rail Maintenance operations and developing maintenance plans and estimates

Business development: Cultivating client relationships, identifying, and evaluating pursuits, establishing teaming relationships, and leading proposal efforts in alignment with the growth strategy

Develops strategies and tactical action plans to deliver business development and client relations objectives. Identify trends and opportunities for business and resource growth.

Minimum Qualifications

BA or BS degree in a technical discipline such as engineering, transportation planning, computer science, mathematics or similar field is strongly preferred. A combination of experience and education may be considered to meet this requirement. Master’s Degree in an engineering, management or related field a strong plus.

Experience with rail operations computer simulation modeling or other transferrable computer simulation modeling skills is essential;

10+ years of related experience in the rail or rail transit industry or allied services such as supplier or consultant or equivalent similar experience strongly preferred;

Strong competency and interest in railroad and/or rail transit operations and system optimization strategies

Proficiency in MS Excel [advanced] and Word, typical office computer software;

Good organizational, technical writing and presentation skills;

Able to interpret technical plans/drawings/specifications and implement technical direction with precision;

Prior experience with an operating railway or public transit agency or other acquired familiarity with the railroad or rail transit operating environment and procedures strongly preferred

Ability to travel and meet with clients and potential clients from Gannett Fleming’s and candidates own networks.
