Current Opportunity Head of Accounting – Dell Foundation – Austin, TX (On‑Site)

The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation is seeking an experienced and mission‑driven

Head of Accounting

who will ultimately report to the Head of Finance & Operations. The Head of Accounting will lead the accounting function within the Corporate Finance team, ensuring the highest standards of financial integrity, compliance, and operational excellence. This leader will oversee accounting strategy and execution across the Foundation’s global operations, working closely with regional teams, the Dell Family Office, and external partners.

The successful candidate will be a technically strong and strategically minded accounting professional who can balance compliance rigor with business insight and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

Oversee the preparation of complete and accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable standards for a private foundation.

Ensure timely completion of annual financial statement audits, IRS Form 990‑PF & Form 990‑T, and other regulatory filings.

Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and global accounting teams.

Accounting Operations & Process Excellence

Direct monthly and quarterly close processes, ensuring reconciliations and reporting accuracy across legal entities and currencies, inclusive of consolidations and intercompany recording and elimination.

Oversee accounting, controls and disclosures for the foundation’s endowment with strong partnership with the Dell Family Office.

Oversee the accounting for program‑related investments and grant obligations.

Drive automation and process improvements in NetSuite and other financial applications and our grant management system.

Participate in the detailed reviews of the Foundation’s balance sheet.

Policy Development & Technical Accounting

Maintain and update accounting policies in alignment with regulatory and business needs.

Prepare technical accounting memos and advise leadership on complex accounting matters.

Develop and maintain a strong internal control environment in both the US and International entities with emphasis on consistency and transparency of operations, transactions and financials results.

Ensure adherence to internal policies.

Proactively identify and mitigate risks.

Financial Analysis & Insights

Oversee preparation of consolidated management reports and board materials with meticulous accuracy and strategic, executed messaging.

Collaborate with Head of FP&A to analyze results versus budgets and forecasts.

Special Projects

Proactively identify and lead projects that drive efficiency of programs and accounting processes, data integrity, and overall effectiveness for the Foundation.

Leadership and Collaboration

Manage and mentor finance team members.

Build strong relationships with program, investment, Technology, and operations partners.

Qualifications

Certified Public Accountant required.

7+ years of public accounting experience in audit or tax; experience in nonprofit or private foundation accounting highly desirable.

10+ years of hands‑on operational accounting controllership within a dynamic, fast‑paced organization.

Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and preferable familiarity with IRS Form 990‑PF requirements.

Proficiency with enterprise systems (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP) and reporting tools (Excel, Tableau, Power BI).

Strong communication skills and the ability to explain financial concepts to non‑financial audiences.

Advanced skills in working with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI / Tableau, and ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.

Bias to action, efficient process transformation mindset, and comfortable communicating to senior management.
