Senior Security Engineer, Hardware Detection

About the Team

Our multidisciplinary group focuses on detecting and responding to attacks against the World ID service. The system relies on the Orb a specialized hardware device that captures secure iris datato provide ProofofPersonhood. You will work closely with security, device hardware, and software teams to ensure the Orb and its future OrbMini variants remain tamperresistant and trustworthy.

About the Role

You will design, implement, and monitor tamperdetection mechanisms for the Orb and future devices. Responsibilities include:

  • Leveraging the Orbs sensor features to detect suspected tampering or other devicelevel threats.
  • Designing tamperdetection and response strategies for a new generation of identity verification hardware.
  • Collaborating crossfunctionally with hardware, embedded software, cloud infrastructure and incidentresponse teams.
  • Participating in oncall rotation and incident handling as needed.
  • Travel up to 20% with a preference for the Munich, Germany office.

About You

  • 58 years of experience designing security or tamper protection for Linuxbased hardware devices.
  • Handson experience with simple electronics design and embedded programming.
  • Strong knowledge of cryptographic primitives, publickey infrastructure, and secure boot mechanisms.
  • Effective communication, leadership, and problemsolving skills.
  • Enjoy working in a fastpaced, collaborative environment.
  • Willingness to engage in an oncall rotation and incidenthandling learning.

NicetoHave Skills

  • Ability to read and understand hardware designs from CAD, schematics, and layout files.
  • Deep understanding of hardwarebased security components (TPM, SE, secure boot, etc.) and related attacks.
  • Experience defending against or executing physical and sidechannel attacks on secure hardware.

Pay Transparency Statement (CA)

The reasonably estimated salary for this role ranges from $221,000 $250,000, plus a competitive longterm incentive package. Additional benefits include health, dental, vision, 401(k) match, life insurance, flexible time off, commuter benefits, and professional development stipend.
