Role: Systems Engineer Job Requirements

An understanding of basic circuit and transmission line theory is essential, as is familiarity with and a working knowledge of concurrent time and frequency-domain methods of analysis and characterization. In addition, the knowledge and experience with use of vector network analyzers is paramount.

Programming familiarity is desired with languages such as Python, Matlab, and C++/C#.

A working knowledge of circuit simulation tools such as Agilent's ADS (or Ansys' Designer) is desired. Practical experience with 3D electro‑magnetic field simulators such as Ansys’ HFSS is required, with expectation to create usable models with 3 dB bandwidths in the 70‑110 GHz range.

Desired candidate must have a solid understanding of the scientific method and have adequate experience setting up experiments, and collecting measurement data using mainstream equipment used for characterizing high speed serial links, both electrical and optical.

Key Responsibilities

Design systems using multiple MACOM and external vendor’s components and subsystems

Help develop system level architectures for MACOM’s next generation products.

Perform system level analysis, evaluate key trade-offs, develop models & simulations to validate the architecture.

Translate high level objectives into chip level and block level requirements.

Help debug issues and identify performance bottlenecks in systems internally and with customer’s engineering teams.

Key Competencies & Skills required

Experience in architecting systems to meet stringent power, cost, and performance targets

Experience analysing and system and block level specifications.

Experience with system modelling using System Verilog, System C, Matlab and the like.

Experience debugging system issues in both internal lab and customer lab environments.

Working knowledge of modern system design and testing methods.

Working knowledge of lab equipment including oscilloscopes, VNA, BERTs, communication protocols analyzers, etc.

Required Qualifications and Experience

BSEE or higher. Coursework emphasis should be within Signal Integrity discipline, or microwaves/RF and electromagnetics.

5+ years of experience

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.

The Salary Range for this position is $70,000 – $113,000. Actual salary offered to candidate will depend on several factors, including but not limited to, work location, relevant candidates’ experience, education, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
